For pedal power your bike is great Mark.
For engine powered your bike is great Craig.
Both are awesome.

Yup, I was gonna say Apex, that bikes seems to be missing an engine...

And 2 wheel guy, that bike seems to be missing wheels....

But I'm willing to bet, both of them are an absolute hoot in their appropriate environments!

The small ones are fine if you don't mind all that vibration, but the big ones are just so fast and powerful <3

Personal preference, I suppose

I dunno... a bike is supposed to use gyroscopic force from the tires to stay up. Without that, it should be more like a snowmobile... unless you want to fall over.

There are off-road snow tires for the Segway too.

Sometimes slower is better. The fast ones make for a short ride while the slower ones take their time so you can enjoy the ride.

Around here we have some hard core cyclists who get studded snow tyres for their Mountain Bikes. Seems to work fine. You really need a "Beater" for the winter. Salt and slush is really hard on the deraileurs and anything made in aluminum. I ride one of my road bikes on rollers in my heated garage. I plan on getting a TV with DVD so that I can watch cycling events while I do the rollers. No salt and slush in the garage. I don't own a mountain bike. I have 5 Road racers, Two 40+ year old road racers, One Time Trial/Triethalon bike, one modern Scandium Eddy Merckx 30Sp Road Racer (My Favorite), and one Touring Bike that I built for myself. It is a Touring bike frame complete with plastic mudguards, luggage racks front and back, Panniers, front and back, and HID Lights. What makes this bike different is that it has Mountian Bike gearing coupled to bar end shifters on the drop bars. I use that bike a lot for running errands around town. Anything is better than driving a cage. Cages are boring even though mine has a 5Sp manual transmission.

I want to find an older bike at an auction so I can just make it a fixie. Plus the scratches and touch up paint would give it character.

I plan on buying a small LCD/LED tv and put it in the garage with a DVD player for just that reason...put the trainer in front of it and get lost watching my DVD of TDF or Race to the Sky, or a Spinnervals DVD. Either way, it would be nice. Depends what I can find. I have a old tube TV that will have to do for now, but I plan on upgrading it later and building a small wall-mounted cabinet for it later (complete with Cable TV hookup).

Only thing, my garage isn't heated, but I'll still go out there even if it is 30* in there.

Mark, When looking for a bike that you plan to convert to a fixie, make sure that the rear drops are horizontal. This will allow for chain tension adjustment. Otherwise you would have to buy a spring loaded jockey wheel to keep tension on the chain. Old Univega, Bridgestone, Panasonic, Raleigh, Bianchi, and some Schwinns, would make outstanding fixies. Besides the horizontal drops, look for ChromeMolly frame material, preferably lugged. Reynolds, Tange, and Columbus would be good choices for frame material. You might find a 7005 Aluminum frame--a touch rare-It would be a Fuji or older Trek or Cannondale. Happy hunting. I do this all the time.

I have a fixie already, it is a Specialized Langster. But I want to do a custom job. That is what makes it fun to me. I'd love to send it out for paint and drool over it when I get it back. I've even been looking on eBay for a cheap ChromeMolly frame. I still have to run it by my wife. I just want to build something for fun because I have never taken a project like that before.

At least I would put a lot of thought in the paint job, the components, the wheel selection, etc. I think it would be so much fun and I'd appreciate the bike so much more because it is something I created.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep my eye out!

I had very good luck with 50 cc scooters in snow .I can put my feet down and they act like out riggers and the CVT trans just keeps the tire spinning till it hooks up . I even have an electric vest . It works for a 10 mile commute .
For Spooph I think I found the perfect snow transportation.
