Winter hobbies?

So last weekend I winterized my bike, and I already miss riding. I need to get into something I can do throughout the cold months. I have one friend who snow boards, and I already asked him to teach me sometime. Still, I'm looking for other options too. What do you guys do in the winter when (unless you're from the South) you can't ride?

I don't count, because I am from the south. Due to this slight problem, my opinion doesn't matter in this thread. hahahahaha

I used to ride even in the snow (back when I lived in IL), but I was a bit more of a risk taker than I am now. haha

I ran in the winter months, played football with some friends in the snow, and that was about it.

Building and flying RC airplanes. Yeah, I fly when it's cold and windy out. It's an addiction.

Great idea! I might have to try and fit that in this winter....

My hobbies:

- riding my bike in the snow, experimenting with various ways to gain traction.
- wrenching on the bike (exhaust, dyno steps, and possibly head work this winter).
- finding a good motovlogging setup
- snowboarding
- catch up on reading which I've let slide all summer long.
- Recently picked up an indoor, electric RC "fighter" heli w/IR to "shoot down" other RC heli's at the local nerd stop (hobby shop).
- photography - this winter will be all about a Ikoflex TLR, refurbishing, shooting, and developing 120mm 6x9 film (B&W), will also do a bit of color...
- working OT so I can take more time off in the summer for trips and such.
- organizing my life, including but not limited to my computer (desktop is horrendous), room and garage. Given up on the mind a long time ago.
I'm thinking that will keep me busy and summer will be here too quickly. Hope it gave you some ideas...

I will pine away the winter getting my bike ready to race in April. When I have to wait for the UPS truck I will fly my R/C helicopter around the shop.

I used to fly RC planes. Problem was I had a single speed plane. Zero throttle control, just the cheapo model. It was a pain because I couldn't lower speeds to land it. I HAD to fly it until it ran out of gas. So if it all of a sudden got windy, I couldn't just land it without risking damage to it. Good to spend a little extra $$ and get one with throttle control.

I have enough expensive hobbies. I don't need to get back into RC cars and planes again.

Normally when the weather turns bad, I ride my bicycle on the trainer in the garage, run on the treadmill, read a book, draw (I'm big into art), work on my bikes (motor or pedal), work on my car (clutch is going to get replaced very soon), play video games (WoW or 360), watch a DVD. Normally I watch like Ironman Kona to dream about the warmer weather, or a motorcycle DVD like MotoGP or AMA Superbike.

Plenty of options out there!

My only winter-specific hobbies are:

- Wishing that basketball season would freakin' end and steering clear of March Madness
- Wishing that hockey season would freakin' end
- Wishing that Formula 1 season would hurry up and get here already (thank God for the Daytona 24… at least I get a road racing fix in February)
- Staying in a warm comfy bed as much as possible
- Missing sunlight (go to work in the dark, work all day inside, go home in the dark)

I do keep active, though, playing in my band…. but I'm always doing that.

Nice Corsair! Is it gas, glow or electric? I'm mainly into electric (have a few glow) and gliders/ sloping.

I don't winterize the bike because I have a heated garage. I work on bicycles-I have a bike shop. Teach bicycle mechanics two days a week at our local Re-entry center (people making the transition from prison to mainstream) Run the local Soup Kitchen--am Chairman of the Board of this 501(C)3 Corporation. Work out at the Y three mornings a week--0700 to 0830. Ride my bicycle on rollers in the shop daily for an hour. During that time I watch TV. Spend time on the computer checking out this forum; keeping up with communicating with friends. Listening to good Jazz on my stereo. Making passes at my wife. Going out and eating Lobster. Winter is great here in Coastal Maine because all the tourists are gone. We no longer have to wait in line at restaurants. We enjoy driving without tourists on the road who have no patience. We experience less Road Rage from out of staters. All in all, it is a time when one can enjoy the company of friends, curl up in front of the fire with a good book, and rest up--because the tourists will be back in the spring and summer expecting an awful lot, which can be frustrating. It would be a different scene if we lived inland. (We live about 300meters from the ocean.)
