What's this thing?
I wanted to clean my bike thoroughly and so I removed the fairings (special thanks to the DIY: let's get nakid)
After everything was clean and putting my bike back together, I found this piece on the ground. I'm sure I haven't removed it myself, I must have fallen of something. It's made of rubber and has one sticky side. Thx for your help if you recognize this thing. I don't think it has any importance for the bike as I had no trouble putting it all back together. But I like to see my bike 'complete' |

On each fairing there are 2 larger bolts. One next to the foot pegs and one higher up next to the seat. Those rubber things stick onto the bracket between the fairing. It keeps falling off but that's where its supposed to go. Each time removing the fairing, I just put it aside and stick it back on with some double sided tape.
I didnt have time to take a picture on my bike but this should work. |

actually that lil rubber part doesn't go where Brian pointed out, it sticks on a different part of the side faring:
this piece seems to have a tendency to fall off a lot, lol

If that's the case then I wonder if the dealer got it mixed up too because the only reason why I thought it was there is because the first time I took the fairings off, 1 fell off and the other was still stuck to the bracket on the bike at that location.

its possible that they didn't know and stuck it where they "thought" it should go without actually checking
if they put that rubber piece where you indicated it could actually damage your faring. since it would add a spacer between the faring and the bracket mount. the bracket mount has a little protruding part that sits in the hole of the side faring. that prevents you from tightening the bolts too tight, potentially causing the plastic to crack. adding that rubber piece on that part will raise the faring up, not something you want to do. however since its rubber, it probably isnt as bad as a solid spacer (steel washers). next time you take the farings off i would recommend removing it from that spot W.
