What is Thread Galling?
"Thread galling occurs during installation when pressure and friction cause bolt threads to seize to the threads of a nut or tapped hole. It is also known as "cold welding".
Once a fastener has seized up from galling it is typically impossible to remove without cutting the bolt or splitting the nut. ......... Stainless, aluminum, and titanium fasteners form thin protective oxide films on their exposed surfaces that prevent corrosion. In addition, this coating reduces friction and prevents direct metal to metal contact during fastening. The protective oxide film can be rubbed or scraped off under the pressure and movement of the fastener being tightened. When this happens these relatively soft metals come into direct contact. Friction increases and the chance of galling increases significantly." Read full article here: https://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-i...d-galling.aspx

Very good. Many younger members without much mechanical background may not have understood this concept. I like these posts you make.

Cheap precaution, about $12.00 a can from a good auto parts store. Apply it to the threads with the included brush. Marine grade is also available from boating supply shops, which would be preferable if your bike is exposed to wet weather a lot.

I did not understand the concept of avoiding over-heating or over-torquing at that time, but it saved me many headaches while I had no torque wrench. Thank you

Remember, when using anti-seize compounds you must reduce the tightening torque or you will risk breaking bolts or stripping threads. Anti-seize compounds allow much more tension in a bolt for a given amount of torque. There should be charts on google that say how much to reduce torque.

Thread galling is when someone really pisses you off in a discussion on the Interwebz and you just plain lose it.
