ninja 400 race bike?
I am just looking into a possible race bike and have heard that the ninja 400 is becoming the go-to bike. can anyone tell me what class it is running in?
I looked at the ccs rulebook and it looks like it would be ineligible for 300ss/sb and would probably get killed by anything else in a bigger class. so if you are running it what division are you running? thanks in advance. MJN |

With CCS, the 400 are the go to bike for 500 GT, 500 SS, and 500 SB right now. One could bump up into the LW and ULW classes to get more races if you wanted.
The 400 is not legal for moto 3 and the 300 classes. |

thanks Dave.
its interesting to me that that is the class that it runs, seems like there would be better choices, but I haven't been on the track in many years so I need to look at as much as I can before I do anything. my guess is that a 300 would be my best bet as I could run more classes, I would most likely get it handed to me in most of them but running and losing is better than not running. Thanks again MJN |

The real 500 cc bikes would be the EX 500 and the honda 500 twin. The honda is pretty low powered. EX 500s seem to be pretty rare in the midwest, I havent seen one at a CCS event.

Take a look at race-results. Ninja 400 is hot right now because it's beating up on everything except for 1000cc bikes. Even then, it would still beat 1/2 the 1000cc field if it was allowed to run up more than one class. In AFM Racing, twins are allowed to race up one and down one class in displacement. Only 300-WSS is restricted by closely adhering to MotoGP a MotoAmerica 300-WSS rules.
http://racehero.io/events/afm-thunde...eway-park-2019 (click "Show Overall" to sort by class) Note fastest Ninja 400 time at Thunderhill this last weekend was 1:57:046 . Thunderhill is "power" track with long 10-sec fron straight and big wide-open turns which puts small bikes at majour disadvantage. Even so, Ninja 400 won out-right and can win in: - 400 superstock - 400 superbike - 450 superstock (cripple 600) - 450 superbike (cripple 600) - Lightweight superbike - Lightweight Twins - Middleweight Singles and Twins - Formulae III - Formula IV (cripple 600) - Formulae 40 lightweight - Ninja Cup (300 & 400 Ninjas, championship winner gets free 400!) - Clubman Lightweight - Clubman Middleweight And is very competitive and mid-pack in following: - 600 superstock (top-10) - 600 superbike - 750 superbike - Open Twins - Clubman Heavyweight - Formulae 50 - Formulae 40 middleweight - Formulae 40 heavyweight One of the racers came home with 4 trophies from racing his Ninja 400 last weekend! Would've won even more if he was able to enter some of other classes, but they were running at same time. |

Not that the 400 ninja is a bad choice at all, but that example is more about the riders than the bike. Beating up on everything except for 1000cc bikes is bs.
Capable of winning and the best choice for winning is not necessarily the same. |

i have raced a 300 for 3 years now. This year I have a 400 also. The 400 is better in every way braking, power and handling. You can race a 300 in the 500cc classes and compete if you are a good rider but at Autobahn and Blackhawk the 400 is good for 2-3 seconds PER LAP that adds up. At Brainerd it was 5 seconds.
There are riders out there that can make that up against slower riders but if you can ride that well you would be able to podium it the lightweight races against SV's and FZ07's on a 400 (or 300 for that matter if you are a Barry or Jankord) Bruce rides 250 chassis but i doubt any of them a 250cc I would expect the CCS 300cc classes to change next year to include the R3 and that could have a ripple effect on other classes I would not put much money in a 300cc race bike at this point, if it is for track days do whatever floats your boat after all any track time is good |

I totally get that the 400 Ninja is an excellent bike that CAN be competitive in a bunch of classes. That doesn't mean it's the best bike to win in a particular class. For the OP, you can have a bunch of fun on the 300 Ninja if you just want to be out there having fun. They are cheap and handle great. A fantastic bike in the rain too. Still you can be pretty competitive if you want. Our endurance team made a lot of teams on bigger bikes look silly on several occasions. |
