[motorcycle.com] - Stay Safe and Stay Vigilant This Independence Day
The American*Motorcyclist Association urges riders to exercise caution while enjoying the open road this Independence Day and MO says, “ditto”.* Begin Press Release: American Motorcyclist Association urges motorists, motorcyclists to exercise caution for Independence Day holiday Heightened risk for road users during annual celebration of American freedom PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association urges all road users to exercise extreme caution and to drive or ride sober during the Independence Day holiday. “As we take time to celebrate the many freedoms Americans enjoy, the AMA asks road users to exercise extra caution while driving or riding,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “Please wait to start celebrating until you arrive at your destination. Drive or ride sober and watch out for motorcyclists on America’s highways and byways, which will be much busier than usual.” In addition to the celebration of our nation’s founding, the holiday offers the chance for picnics, motorcycling and backyard cookouts. Communities across the country will stage festivals with live music, food, drink, parades and fireworks displays. People traveling to and from these celebrations should exercise extra caution on the roads. Impaired and distracted driving becomes more prevalent during holiday travel times, increasing the risk to all motorists. But motorcyclists are always more vulnerable than other drivers. “Our freedom to ride and travel requires that we do so responsibly and in a manner that does not pose a threat to others,” Dingman said. “Motorists and motorcyclists, alike, should leave extra space between their vehicles and those nearby, take an extra look before changing lanes or making a left turn and reduce speed for extra safety. We want everyone to enjoy the holiday and to arrive safely at their destinations.” Please visit http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/...le-operation-1 for the official AMA position statement on Distracted and Inattentive Vehicle Operation.
