My list in order:
ZX-6R & CBR600RR ABS (VERY close, at this stage I can't decide)
GSXR600
R6
Those can honestly get you in trouble just as fast as the 1000. Many own 600's and found that going to a 1000 actually meant cheaper insurance rates (results may vary).

Hmm, you are right Alex, what a surprise

I am just comparing the ZX6R and ZX10R and they are 43 and 40 MPG respectively there is a 37.5lb weight difference between the two (17kg)

I still think I will still stay with the 600s for now (when I can get a 600 due to my licence conditions), I just can't see how you can use the extra power of the 1000s legally on the road... Even the 600s will break the highest speed limit here in 1st

The only other bikes I have any interest in are the Versys and the ZX-6R ...
Will still keep my 250 even if I upgrade though

I sold my '03 ZX6RR because it was too easy to end up to far north of the legal limit. Not something I need in a bike I am commuting on.

Ducati Monster
WeeStrom
Versys
Hypermotard

(I am rebuilding a CB750 and have the carcasses of 2 Buells, one an XB9R in the garage)

I've been riding a GSXR 1000 lately. I usually ride between 3 and 4 grand on the tach. That's just putting around for that engine however if you have some shelf control with the throttle it's still a sweet ride, then you have some reserve power should you need it.

I love this bike too, but I'm not ready for that yet, and want to try something different next (not a "sport" bike). White is definitely the best color though.

You and I are definitely on the same page. Excellent taste there my friend.

I sooo want a ducati. I can't see myself spending the cash on one, but I want it BAD! And once I get one, it will sit under a cover, not an ounce of dust on it anywhere, and ONLY taken out when there isn't a cloud in the sky.

Like the ferrari in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Only this would be better.

A Ducati I would ride every day would be the monster.

By the way, this is my background on my computer at work...

LOL i love that bike to death too but have you ever sat on one? The idiot who design that seat should be shot and strung up next to the moron who designed the tank. The end of the tank feels pointy...and the seat oh-so conveniently slides your crotch right into the pointy end. Its not fun....not even close. Well...it might be if ur thrashing through the twisties...but God help you at a stop light

I should be like that considering the price tag. I just think the thing is a work of art.

It is a work of art. How bad do you think the engineers would feel if you didn't display it to its full potential? Like putting a Monet in a closet.

I'm not saying I wouldn't ride it, and I wouldn't take it to a track. I'm just saying I wouldn't ride it in rain.

I'd be worried about laying it down is all. So i'd probably take it really easy on it and never put it in harms way.

Come try that shelf control of the throttle on our long roads at night where you can see for miles and have nothing to gauge your speed on and see how often your not suddenly 10 over what your were riding at...I am not talking the freeways, I am talking the 6 lane city streets marked 35-45...

DUCATI MONSTER 696!!!

This is the only bike I would upgrade to right now. Honestly, everyday comfort riding appeals to me much more than absolute raw speed and performance. Besides, i absolutely love the naked styling and V-twin music!

I'm not allowed to do 6 lane city roads. I'm not even allowed to live in such an area. When your life revolves around riding you don't move to such a nasty place.

If I were looking to upgrade I think the Monster 696 is a work of art but pricey, the HD XR1200 has that flat track cool but would grow tired of it I think, the rational part of me says my local dealer having '08 Yamaha FZ1's for around $7,700 is a sweet deal. Not fully naked bike, but a half fairing, and a very streetable liter engine.

Yamaha's FZ line is an excellent, well-rounded design. Useful in many kinds of areas. All the FZ's around me are overpriced, which tells me people really like them.

You can always start a "post all bikes" thread where people post up pictures or links to different bikes.

I'm a Ducati and Aprilia fan deep down. But I settle for Kawi's and such.

Don't get me wrong, I love my little 250. I can see owning an Aprilia 750 Shiver in the future, or a Ducati monster.

or this... thanks TnNinjaGirl

Since everyone is dreaming Ducati. I've had a couple but I'm looking for a mint 916 to keep and ride on special occassions. One of the best ever made, reasonable in price now, damn sexy, is going to be a collector bike.

lol, everyone loves the expensive stuff. It looks awesome, and it's rare and exotic. Realistically though, I'm not sure I'd want to own an MV or Ducati. I'd be so worried everytime I took it out that I don't think I'd ever use it to it's full potential. Not to mention it's doubtful I'll ever have the skill to use it to its full potential anyway, lol.
In reality, one day, I'd like a 600cc supersport for fun and another bike, something like a monster or the 250 I have now to compliment it in the garage for commuting and such. Of course, far off in the future my opinion might change, but I have no need for exotics when all the fun I could ever ask for can come in a package for 30% of the price. Right now, I wouldn't want anything but my 250, and, even if I had the money, I wouldn't buy another bike.

We love it, yes. There are some, like me who deep down really doesn't want to own the "dream bike" because you'd be constantly worried about it, not wanting to have anything happen to it, etc.

Like with cars. I wouldn't ever own a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin (oh the vantage is hot), etc because I wouldn't want to worry about people trying to steal it, key it, etc. So even if I won a 50M lottery, I wouldn't touch them.

That is why if I plan on actually get a bike to truly ride and ride hard, I'd be more selective about the bike. Yeah I love the DB7, 1198, and such, but I'd rather get something more practical.

Bikes like:
Ducati Monster
Ducati 848
Honda VFR800
CBR
Ninja
GSXR
R1/R6
HD XR1200
Aprilia Shiver 750
etc.

Those I wouldn't be as worried about. Right now the 250 is doing fine for me. Though I honestly do believe I will be upgrading before the end of this year. 600+cc motor definitely. How much I spend depends on what my wife and I decide I should spend.

I will probably stick with my '08 250R for a while since I don't see an opportunity to upgrade anytime soon, that I was able to even get the Ninjette was a fluke.

However, after riding my bro's '03 CBR600RR I do like the additional power, but not aggressive riding position. So roughly in order:

'09 Kawasaki Ninja 650R
Suzuki SV650SF/ABS
'09 Honda CBR 600RR ABS (mostly b/c of the ABS and familiarity riding my bro's)
Suzuki GS500F
