[motorcycle.com] - MotoAmerica Replaces Outgoing KTM RC Cup With All-New Junior Cup f

MotoAmerica has just announced that it will usher in the all-new Junior Cup class for 2018 which will replace the outgoing KTM RC Cup. What this means is that racers will now have the option to race a homologated bike other than the KTM RC390. Newly included models are the Honda CBR500R, Kawasaki Ninja 300/400, Suzuki GSX250R and Yamaha YZF-R3. This is great because it truly opens the door for riders interested in racing who may not already own an RC390, but rather one of the models mentioned above. Additionally, as a result, the new Junior Cup class creates the opportunity for more young people to get involved with motorcycle racing/riding with the introduction of these additional manufacturers, effectively making racing more accessible and potentially more affordable too. *

Begin Press Release:

January 22, 2018 – The 2018 season will be an exciting time for MotoAmerica, largely due to the introduction of the all-new Junior Cup class. Taking the place of the KTM RC Cup, the Junior Cup is set to be the new breeding grounds for young riders looking to make their mark on the MotoAmerica championship. Sure, it might be entry-level racing for some, but there’s no doubt the front of the field will be as cutthroat as they come.

The big news about the Junior Cup is the fact that the class will be open to all manufacturers with a homologated model. Not only does this create an opportunity for the manufacturers to increase their involvement in the MotoAmerica paddock, but will likely attract more riders and teams from around country who never owned a KTM RC390. That also means that all you die-hard Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, and Yamaha fans will have more racing to cheer for.

The Junior Cup rules package will be heavily based upon the FIM 300 Supersport class, which had successful bar-to-bar racing throughout the 2017 season.

Homologated Junior Cup Motorcycles:

• Honda CBR500R

• Kawasaki Ninja 300

• KTM RC390

• Suzuki GSX250R

• Yamaha YZF-R3

The 14-to 25-year-old Junior Cup contenders will compete in nine of 10 MotoAmerica race weekends throughout the 2018, with every weekend being a chance to prove themselves to the rest of the paddock. The Junior Cup Championship will kick off at Road Atlanta, April 13-15, and likely won’t be decided until the very last weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.

As we wait for the Junior Cup bar banging to begin at Road Atlanta, check out this video of last year’s RC390 Cup action. Be sure to not miss any of the Junior Cup racing in 2018. We promise it won’t disappoint.
