The 06 R6 I rode indicated 86 mph in first gear.

I know, I was just saying. But as it's been said before, not only is it excessive & unnecessary, its just too dangerous for anyone.

Why so slow? Why not just get a Y2K or some Turbo Busa, because cornering is for squids.

thanks for the laughs guys lol... I don't think Robert is a irresponsible kid, he just made the decision that most of us would advise new riders to avoid. As long as you respect the bike's power, you will be fine. Since you're in los angeles robert, lets go riding some day and I'll show you how slow the 250 is we can go to PV switchbacks since its close to home and you'll have fun there.. not too intimidating.

To be honest I don't think Robert is irresponsible, I think his parents are. He made the choice that all kids want to make, hell I made that choice too. He parents could of told him no, but they agreed, which I am sure made him happy, but that choice probably wasn't in his best interests.

I thought most kids wanted a really nice car instead of a bike. That way they can actually take more than one person with them when going out.

It was either a car or a bike for a graduation present, I chose a bike. Albiet Robert and I are only two cases, I am sure there are many more.

You are soooo right! I have searched in vain for a quiet helmet, but my bike puts the wind boundary on my collarbone and so my head is in the turbulence and noise. I ride with silicone ear plugs in and my sena headset speakers are loud enough to get thru the plugs well.

When I took the MSF course, I ended up paired up with a guy from my town (class one hour away). He rode a vulcan 900 with V&H pipes and man, it sounded good. But he wore standard ear buds so he could hear his ipod. I tried explaining to him over breakfast that you needed to mute the noise not cover it up with more sound. I'm not sure he got it... he's a young 'un, so one day he will.

On the other hand, at stop lights, we could not talk... I was in a full helmet with earplugs.

Robert, kudos to you for having thick skin. Guys, you gotta remember this kid is 15! No offense intented Robert, but you couldn't possibly know how you come across to adults with worlds more experience. Imagine for a moment that you are a grown man in you 20s or 30s who has a 250 and has been riding the hell out of it. Then a 15 year old kid who has the bike for a month, has crashed it, has never gone over 70mph, doesn't drive more than 5mph over speed limit, is scared to go on the highway, etc. etc., posts a topic telling you that their bike - the same one that you have - is boring and slow.

That's the source of the hate you are getting and justifiably so IMO even though you didn't have any ill intentions when started that thread. But like I said, at 15 you don't know what you don't know. My wife who has never played baseball and is completely unathletic, told me the other day she is "good at baseball" because we were having a catch and she was able to actually catch a few. You have done the motorcycling equivalent unintentionally I believe.

Congrats on your R6 and take your time. Take the advice of people with experience it's free. You have gotten a lot of feedback to your threads and looking through the flame throwing, you should be able to see a common theme.

I was 17 when I got an R6, and now I'm 19. I realized, by the time I was 18, that it wasn't a good idea for any young person to have such a high powered bike. I couldn't even imagine what I would of done at 15. I mean even more than that, I had ridden my Ninja 250r for a year before I even touched a 600. And you're right, people here are harsh on him, but thats simply because it would be a shame to see someone so young lose their life to have a little fun early on.

Somehow I've not noticed you Robert. Apparently you're pretty famous around here!

As for comparing a Ninja 250 to an R6... I've never ridden anything much more powerful than my 2fiddy, but from what I know about the R6, it's a very powerful machine. I imagine riding a ninjette is kinda like riding a young, healthy horse whereas riding an R6 is like riding a T-Rex.

Careful on that Rex!

Does the same things really need to be repeated over and over???
Anyone saying the 250r, whether new-gen or pre-gen, is not capable or too slow of a bike, has no idea how to ride ANY bike!
They simply do not want to work for a living and have decided to get on disability ASAP!

Me too.

Have you tried riding a bigger-engine/super-sport Chris? I really want to have a go on a GSXR 600. I don't want to own one for street riding though; I'm happy with my ninjette. They do look like fun!

Back to why so many people "love" you Robert, it does come off as slightly hilarious and ludicrous that you would come on here talking about how the 250 is underpowered. This is especially poignant after you crashed said 250 and then went on to get a 600!

I'll have to second that your parents seem a tad bit crazy for letting you get a 600. Think of the 250 as the power YOU can USE, not the power that will USE YOU. Believe me the 600 can and will use you...all you are is an untrained hand waiting to twist that throttle a bit too much. The thing is though, when you mess up on that 600 you won't just total your bike like you did your 250, you'll seriously hurt yourself.

In hindsight, I should have let him take a spin on my R6 around the large parking lots at Mid-Ohio.

Ouch! Let's hope you're wrong. No one wants to see another rider go down let alone have him suffer injury. Robert wouldn't be the first to start on the 600cc class and do so without injury (too late for avoiding insult). Granted, learning the rules of the road while also learing to control a pure bred race bike is a risky proposition.

I suppose it can be done. When I was 13 years old I had 2 years of experiences on a XR100 when my mom's boyfriend put me on his YZ400F. I suppose that is the dirt bike equivalent of riding a super sport. At least at 13 years old that bike seemed like a rocket. Now that I've ridden rockets the 400 seems a lot more controlled.

heck yeah!!! I rode bright purple 1997 cbr600f3 all last summer when my buddy went to California and wanted me to keep his bike running for him. It was a hoot!!! I started out in his neighborhood rocking the power duck walk to find the friction zone, then I did a whole bunch of starts and stops, then I just start cruising and by the end of the first week, I was ripping (cautiously) through the valley on some twisty roads!! It was a total hoot!! That thing is jetted with a full exhaust and will lift the front in 1st and get really light in 2nd .

I also went to the Kawasaki demo day and test rode a 650, a ninja 1000, a zx14, a zx6r and a Vulcan 900. I've also ridden my buddy's 500r and a couple newgen 250's. Ohohhh a drz200 at my msg course and a random scooter that was also doing demo day the same day as the Kawasaki demo day also. That's all I've ridden so far.

If the Ninja 250 doesn't have enough power for you, then you don't know how to ride it.
