Cafe project paint done...

Hello,

Been browsing this forum as a guest for a few weeks. I'm overseas as a contractor, picked up a 2007 250 as a project and bought the blue collar bobber cafe kit for it. Just got the pieces picked up from the painter, looking pretty good. Aside from the kit, I've ordered the Buell lower footpegs and the woodcraft lowered risers with the extra long bars. Wanted to do clubmans but figured I'd wait a bit to see if the WCs work for me. I'm pretty tall so I might end up having to bite the bullet and figure it out.

One question I do have, and I know its been asked by damn near everyone, is rear tire size. Bear in mind, I will not be tracking this bike, and I ride like an 80 year old woman. I simply do. not. care. about lean angles or quick turn in or what have you. The chicken strips on this bitch will be wide enough for hamsters to drag race side by side on. Will a 140-90-16 fit on this, or is it too tall? If it is too tall, what else will fit? Not looking at modifying the rear, I just want as chucky of a tire as I can cram back there. Sport tires, cruiser tires, friggin dual sports, don't care. Purely for looks, just in case anyone feels like asking.

Anyways, looking forward to this project, and next time I'm back in St. Louis hopefully a few of us can ride.

Paint job looks great!

As to tire size, I'm running a 130/90-16 on my pregen, and it's very close to the chain and swingarm. Keep in mind that the rim is pretty narrow to begin with, so you probably shouldn't go with a 130/90.

Also, can you even find 140/90 tires for 16" wheels?

Shinko 777 cruiser tires come in that size.....they actually look pretty cool, I just dunno if they'd fit or not. I could probably buy one just to see, but I'm in Afghanistan for the forseeable future so I really just want to see what sort of tires have worked for other people, and if I can make a decision based on that, it'd be even easier.

If you're going for a cafe racer look, they tended to have skinny little tires back then anyway

they also thought women getting to vote was awful and that minorities were subhuman, so I figure if they were wrong about that then maybe their tire choices could be wrong as well

Ummm, another member has a 140/70-16 Diablo Scooter tires on his. I've used a 130/90-16 BT45 on mine, it was actually 138mm wide and looked darn good.

Yes! That would be fun. I know some other ninjette riders around the area so we can organize a ride.

And yea, the paint scheme is awesome. Put up some pics when the bike is assembled.

Will do man. Gonna be a while, not sure when I'll be able to make it home next, hopefully before end of summer. Trying to get everything lined up and purchased before I make it home so that it'd just take a few days to knock the project out

Here's a pic of my 130/90V BT-45 Battlax. Fits pretty tight. I'm not sure a bigger tire would fit without rubbing, and the rim is pretty narrow, anyhow. The front is a 100/90H:

Might end up going with a cruiser type tire if I can find one in that size. Wanted to go up a bit since the front tire is going to be a shinko 120

Went back and took a look at the front tire that comes with the kit and I tenatively identified it as a Shink0 712 120/80v-16. So I went ahead and ordered the 130/90v-16 712 for the rear so that they'd match. Figured that was my best bet.

Blue Collar Bobbers also sells dogbones now for the bike for about a bill, if anyones interested. Says it raises the rear an inch. Probably could have gotten them cheaper someplace else, but I am blessed with more money than sense and feel that patience is an overrated virtue.

Good to know on the dogbones. I also raised my rear, but I used a set of custom length (shorter) adjustable bones from Soupy's Performance. They were about $130, but well worth it. They allow me to go higher, and keep the same height with any tire I chose. They do wonders for the bike's handling as well. The thing turns in by blowing on the bars.

nice! I kinda want to do a few track days (obviously not on this thing) but I don't think I have the spare testosterone
