Be prepared for the 'indicated vs. actual' police to show up here any minute. For some folks - that's a really big deal.

Regardless, be safe and gear up if you're into spirited riding.

The weight dose not help with top speed . It just takes longer to get the top speed. The size of the rider however is another story. But getting a 250cc bike to that speed takes some mods
I bet it did not take that much in the way of mods though. People say to get a 600 or want to move up. 115mph on the clock is flying .What have you done to the bike?

A guy around here did 110 at an old airstrip in Maine that does measured speed runs. I am told he then tried higher gearing but couldn't pull it.

Full exhaust, kit, modded the airbox, K&N. Well tuned carb with a little polishing and port matching here and there.
I have been playing with carbs on my drag cars since early 90's.
As you know the biggest jet doesnt always make the most power.
and oh yeah I can get behind the windscreen. Im an overgrown jockey.

It took a lot to get my bike up to 110mph in a mile from a standing start.I am bigger than a jocky. That is 121 on the stock speedo. It took nitrous to get it to go 121mph for real on the track .

Well, I ran well over a mile. More like 2 miles and change. I got 119mph on the speedo with a 10-12mph tail wind. 13,000 RPM in 6th.
she'll hit 125 on the speedo and hit the rev limiter in 6th with a 25mph + tail wind. done it once before.
BTW thats buring 87 octane no ethonal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQew9BmBxTE

And thats the stock bodywork to boot.
I use gearingcommander to estimate my speed. The speedos suck.

It takes so long to get there I give up way before that. Plus it's not like it's a record or anything. Maybe we should start specifying... 100mph in xx amount of seconds. That'd be more impressive.

My '11 250 R ran a 0-60 in 5flat and top speed of 111mph.

At least it felt that fast.

It takes me about 40 seconds to go from 0 to 120 mph in one mile. But that is on a flat track. with an ambulance crew standing by.the track is flat and straight for two miles . There is no cross streets traffic or loose dogs. I have a steering damper installed also.

PLEASE don't start trying to go over 110 mph. The suspension I.E. rear shock and front fork are the reason the bike costs 4000 dollars.
I have lost to many friends racing and riding on the street. How many people on this forum have had there lives changed forever with motorcycle mishaps. There are tracks all over the country that run 1/4 mile . I hit 92 mph all motor going 14 seconds. Lets have a contest to see who can get the fastest 1/4 mile or 1 mile time slip. Don't go trying to see how fast the 250 ninja will go. It will go faster than it should . And faster than the law will allow.
End of rant

Thank you for the rant.
Good words of Advice. Hence the reason I called my thread sqiuddyness.
Ran mid 14's at 85-87mph at the dragstrip on a cool crisp fall night.
So you win on both counts.
I usually only ride like that at the track anyway. I do not advocate doing this.
RacerX is 100% correct the bike does not feel planted at speeds over 110mph indicated.
My runs were in full gear with no cross roads or traffic, The road runs straight and is flat and had cornfields on both sides.
I dont think I could sleep well ever if I took out anyone else while being a squid on the street.
Does that make it better??? NO I did consider and choose a road that minimized the risk.
End of my rant.

I went 14 with a full body and trying not to break it .Cold weather of March just doing test and tune for land speed racing in April . Now I have the bike striped to 295 lb wet and I have lost 10 lb .Plus the nitrous. I am going to try to get into the 12s. But I don't know .

I once got to 100mph indicated and honestly the bike felt much more stable than I thought it would. It wasn't as adrenalin pumping as I thought it would be . Ever since I put on the puig db it seems as though top speed acceleration has suffered, especially around the 95+ mph mark though I rarely ever go for a top speed run.

The faster you go the more stable the bike will feel. The wheels are giant gyroscopes. The problem comes when you try to change direction at speed. That is when things start to happen faster than the suspension or tires can deal with. It is all fun and games till you have to turn.

yea, but it causes too much wind resistance for top speed runs; basically it just worsens the aerodynamics of the bike. I've also never removed or folded down the mirrors for a top speed run with affect the aerodynamics too. Top speed on these bikes (or any bike for that matter) seems to improve most through improving aerodynamics.

If you were referring to my post, I was mainly talking about the wind factor (crosswinds) and comfort level of being at that speed; not the gyroscopic effect of wheels increasing stability the faster they go.

The more you go fast the more relaxed you become. You vision starts to widen and that is the best thing for fast riding.

Aerodynamics are key . I tried a lot of different shields .I found the stock shield with about four inches removed from the top of the tank worked very well. Now I have a new tank that is cut down to the frame and I use a touring shield from a 650 Ninja . I tilted the fairing assemblt back nine degrees. The windshield was at 50 degrees.I raked it back to about 41 by piviting the whole fairing assembly.
