Pregen engine in Newgen bike?

Here's an idea...

I like Newgen bikes for their 17" wheels and better tyre selections. Suspension better for track-racing. But... engine tune sucks for racing. Comparing specs and 0-60 & 1/4-mile shows Pregen bikes are faster.

So... what about combining best of both? More powerful Pregen engine into a Newgen chassis! Anyone tried this?

And upgrade to EFI at same time!

...ugh. Why?

Here's the pregen with a good exhaust system. Dyno chart included.

There are also ways to advance the timing on the newgen engine on top of what a decent intake/exhaust and tune can do.

The fastest we've seen documented in video posts to this forum are roughly 6-6.2 seconds regardless of pregen or newgen. Most are slower.

Hmm, power & torque-curve really does look better. I guess extra 20-lbs on Newgen is probably what hurts it?

I'm convinced that the published numbers online for the pregen are wildly optimistic. I think the bikes are nearly identical in terms of straight line performance.

I agree, Kawasaki didn't change much in the engine department, they focused more on looks, and suspension, but mostly looks to make it look more modern.

It's not that they didn't change the engine, they just didn't change the performance requirements of the bike. Japanese vehicle manufacturers are really good at hitting a performance benchmark consistently between generations. See also: Subaru STi and WRX. There's been like 4 generations of that car that are all very similar in terms of power and acceleration.

The head is different. Oil pan is different. There's enough different to call it a different engine, even if the external dimensions are not all that different.

Yeah, and the power curve is completely different. Pregen is all about revs and top-end. Newgen has tonnes more mid-range; you can use it 1-2 gears higher cruising around. Falls flat on its face in the upper ranges though.
