Left Turn Signal - Bad Connector
Are any of you having problems with the rear turn signals after your fender chop? The last few rides, my left rear signal has been failing during the ride. Failure meaning lights are not flashing, which usually means a bulb is burned out. Bulbs are fine and it's not the flasher, since the same flasher is used for both the right and left turn signals.
Each time this occurs, I remove the seat and jiggle the connector for the left side. The signal starts working. It did it again today, so I checked the voltage at the bulb....zero.. Removed the seat and jiggled the connector...it worked. Tug on the wire, it continued to work. Jiggle the wires, it quit working. It has something to do with the connector! I am real close to replacing the connectors with a connector like the Battery Tender uses. Anyone else had this problem? Thoughts? |

I haven't had a problem.
Try switching the left and right blinkers at the connectors. If the problem moves to the other side, the broken wire is from the connector to the blinker. If the problem stays on the same side, the problem is in the main harness leading up to the connector. My guess is that it's going to be a connector pin that's barely hanging on to the wire somewhere or the contacts in the connector "pins" themselves are not spread wide enough to make good contact with the other side pins. |

Cool... I had a similar problem the first day I brought my bike home. The left front turn signal wouldn't light. It turned out to be the center prong in the socket not being bent out enough to make contact with the bulb base. Bent it out a bit and it's been good since.
thanks for the follow up. |
