Tuning factory carbs...yes or no?

I have been trying to find a thread about tuning factory carbs, or if it is possible. I am running a K&N air filter on my 2011 250 and just wondering if it is possible to tune with a factory muffler or do you have to spend the $500 approx on a new exhaust and jet to get a few extra horses?

A jet kit and tuning will be a benefit with stock or aftermarket exhaust.

For someone new to Ninjas but not new to bikes (myself), OP has a K&N filter. Would a rejet do me well on a totally stock bike?

Any idea as to what jets would work best with the factory exhaust? Since I start it up at 645 in the morning and don't want to annoy my neighbours I don't want a loud exhaust.

As per the question about the K&N filter. Made a huge difference for throttle response. A worth while investment

Based on the elevation of your location and average temps, the stock jets work well. Recommend you shim the stock needles with the K&N filter (improves low-mid range throttle response) if you have not already done so. Also a set of Iridium plugs will improve the idle, warm up and high rpms range, although not necessary.

A re-jet is not totally necessary on a stock bike. Shimming the stock needles works just fine. It is basically the same as installing a Dynojet 2193. You will see a better throttle response, idle and warm up.

To take advantage of the Ninja's available HP, changing the stock 14 tooth front sprocket to a 15 tooth is highly recommended.

Thanks for the info guys. I will look into shimming the carbs. I have the 15 tooth sprocket sitting beside the bike, it is the next mod to do before the snow melts

You can also remove the snorkel if you choose to.

There's plenty of reading to be done, just use the search bar to search "jetting" or "shimming", and feel free to post up and ask questions
