'94+ EX500 fork tubes and valve emulators in an EX250J?

I'm seriously considering looking for a set of trash 37mm EX500 forks to see if the tubes are feasible replacements for EX250J tubes. The bushing at the end is the same part number as the EX250J but I think the fork itself is longer (should be good for generic clip-ons) and I have no idea if the damper rods will fit. Now, the same FEGV S3501 RaceTech valve emulators are listed as compatible with EX250F, EX250J, and EX500D, so what can I get away with here considering that you are expected to drill holes in the damping rods to de-restrict? In other words, if there is a compatibility problem, is it something that could be solved with valve emulator modifications?

Very curious!
