bike makes a humming sound when off?

never noticed this before but i was in the garage today and it was just extremely quiet in there.. well every like 1-2 mins the bike makes a very.. very light humming sound that lasts for maybe 2sec's , just keeps repeating every 2mins or so.. key off and evrything

oh....what?.....mine only goes on after some rides. If i dont ride it, the only sound she makes is that famous gas tank purge sound. if it is your fan, im not sure why it would do that

The fan should NOT run all the time. It may continue to run for a brief period right after shutting down the engine but that is all that would be considered normal.

i know what the fan sounds like when it comes on after you shut the bike off, thats loud.. this is a very faint short hummmm sound.. i would try to record it but i doubt the camera would even pic it up.. if the bike were outside i doubt i would even hear it. i dont think its the tank purge because whatever it is its like its a timed thing. like exactly ever minute it makes the sound .. ill try to investigate it more. but it cant be from right after riding cause when i noticed it like i said it had to be a good 48hrs since last starting so im guessing it was in there for 2 days humming along lol!

push it out in the driveway and let it sit in the sun for a bit then back to the garage. I've noticed that gets mine going. One day the wife and daughter came running in the house saying there is some animal stuck in the garage.

HAHA!! i caught the animal! listen closely at 20-25sec and 50-55.. im guessing it is gas tank related because i opened the gas cap, and the noise stopped... it seems to take 2-3 days sitting in the garage without starting the bike up to make the noise.

Thanks Greatwhiteninja

Thanks Greatwhiteninja, I just bought this bike and in the garage I was trying to track down that damn sound for like 1 hour.

I thought that some bug/hornet was caught somewhere in the walls LOL

Good to confirm with video and sound hahaha

Dood..... that is her mating call. She wants you to ride her. Do not deny! Add me to the list of peeps that thinks it sounds like tank venting.

And welcome Tekky!

Damn you, I was just going to say the mating call thing.

But really, that's your bike moaning in ecstasy, thinking about riding. She's ready for you, if you are man enough to take her out and ride her like she's fantasizing about.

Bikes get lonely sitting in the garage by themselves, man, you can't do that to them.

Well there's your problem. You have to take care of her before she starts getting all noisy and whiny, you can't just go off and ignore her for days on end.

It's like you never had a girlfriend or something..

LOL I have been riding her!
She still moans when I get back, my wife reckons it kinda sounds like a soft sounded wookie.

I can confirm that the sound does stop if I open the tank for 30-60secs
