Cracks in Lower Cowling

For whatever reason, every time I go to fix/tweak something on the bike something is always broken .

Today I upgraded the horn and went to lube the chain, and as I looked down to put the center stand up I noticed something on the lower cowling was a little...off. I looked more closely and noticed that the back of the left side of the fairing is cracked in three or four places, right around where it meets the rear mounting point. Gah!!! I have no idea what happened - I would guess that it was either heat that made it brittle, or perhaps heating/shrinking from riding in cold weather, or maybe someone just kicked it one day. Who knows.

Anyways - I think I need a new lower cowling. I could repair it, but it just seems easier to spring the money for a new once. OEM ones seem to be around $350 new (ouch...) and ebay ones are give or take around $50-$100 (less ouch).

Any color suggestions? I'm going to go duct tape the one I have...

I use this stuff called plastex. Work pretty damn good if you do it right, and take your time.

Wouldn't ABS cement do the same thing as Plastex? IIRC, it's basically just dissolved ABS plastic in acetone and the prep instructions for the part are almost identical. ABS is always black right? If so, I guess they don't use ABS (black, white, and clear are available). Other than that, it seems that the major difference is that they use powdered plastic and don't add the solvent until after it's in place. Perhaps I should source a cheese grater/blender/mortar and pestle/stone mill and dice up some plastic.
