Intermittent tail light issue
My tail/rear light keeps going out for around 5-10 seconds when I first start my 2009 Ninja 250R, then comes back on again... then it'll go out, then on, then out, then on... cycles through this a few times, then seems to stay on!
When it's off, the brake light still works fine whilst using either front or back brake, and it seems fine once it's done it's on/off bit for a while. Wiring looks fine, can't see anything loose, could it just be the bulb? Going to replace this at the weekend just in case - anybody know the correct bulb I need to get in the UK? Light seems fine once the bikes been running for a few minutes and doesn't always go off either when I first start it up. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? |

My first guess is that the filament in the bulb is broken, the vibrations of the engine running makes it bonce around and make and break contact, new bulb would fix that. Could also be a dirty connection in the bulb socket and or on the bulb. Maybe a weak spring in the socket, or a poor connection were the wire from the socket plugs into the wiring harness.

Electricity is not shallow! It doesn't care about looks! If I had nickel every time I heard fuse "looks good"!!!
You've got an intermittent disconnection. We need to track that down. Pull out multimeter and measure: - bulb resistance, shake bulb around and re-measure - voltage at bulb-socket with key ON (have assistant shake harness wires) - voltage at harness connector with key ON (have assistant shake harness wires upstream of connector) Last futzed with by DannoXYZ; January 30th, 2019 at 09:09 AM. |

Strangely, since posting this thread, it’s been fine and I haven’t touched it! Going on the theory of ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ I think I’ll just keep an eye on it until it happens again!
