Hello Ninjette world!

Hi,

My name is Jordan and I work for RaceTech Electric out of San Diego.

I wanted to add myself as a resource to your board in case anyone has any electrical or charging system questions. We are a small business out of San Diego and want to be as helpful as possible so we can start building a strong reputation. We even have a pretty awesome diagnostic flowchart on our website that is available to anyone who may need help diagnosing a problem with their charging system.

Tech Page:

http://racetechelectric.com/ft-734-tech-support.html

There are also definitions and descriptions of each component in a motorcycle charging system to try and make your diagnostics go smoothly.

As a company we manufacture high output charging system components for motorcycles. We don't have a lot available for the Ninja 250 yet, but we will be working on some stuff in the next year. If you have any requests, or know of any parts that seem to fail frequently feel free to let me know and I will get them to our engineer.

Even though we don't have a lot of house made products for the Ninja 250, we do have an online store that has Koso Gauge cluster kits, heated grips, and kill switches. The Koso gauge cluster kits are plug and play and come with an adapter board and wiring harness for either the Koso RX-2 or RX-2N computer. The cost for the kits are the same ($399.95) which is a pretty big savings off of the MSRP if you were to buy all of the components seperately (17-20% off). Our website is still pretty new and we're working on it daily, so bear with us or let us know if you run into any problems. To make your hunting easier, here are some links to the parts I mentioned above.

Gauge cluster kits:

http://racetechelectric.com/i-857927...-250-250r.html

http://racetechelectric.com/i-857918...-250-250r.html

The heated grips and kill switch:

http://racetechelectric.com/i-858447...ted-grips.html

http://racetechelectric.com/i-858450...ll-switch.html

Feel free to ask any questions!
Thanks,
Jordan@racetechelectric.com

Hi Jordan -

Apologies for the automated message earlier in the thread, it's a not-so-hidden little secret. All for sale threads really need to be in the marketplace area on this site, and there are some minimum requirements before vendors / members can post up new threads there (must be here for 30+ days, must have at least 25 posts on the board already).

We appreciate the expertise you are sharing, and hope that you can participate here online for things that relate to our well-loved 250's, but if you want to advertise here directly other than what's laid out within the marketplace rules, there's always the opportunity to use google adwords for paid advertising.

Thx,
- Alex

Totally understand Alex,

We are already on top of our google adwords and I am more than happy to just take questions until I have finished any sort of probationary period. My intro wasn't actually supposed to be so filled with things for sale, but this was the last thing I did at work today and I think it got a little out of control.

Apologies for any rule breaking, I'm just here to help.

Thanks again,
Jordan

Think your engineer can make a replacement CDI that doesn't have the tachometer variance with temperature issue? I'd buy an OEM replacement except that hte chances are high that it will have the same issue.

If I knew you existed before I left SD last year I would have brought mine by for your engineer to look at, but I know there are plenty of Ninjetters in SD who can still do it.

@ CZroe

We aren't making any ignition components in the near future, just charging system components. We may be making some ignition stuff in the future and I will definitely bring this up with our engineer. For the immediate future, I may only be good for diagnostic help with your ignition systems. But I will dig into this CDI problem and see what I can find.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas!

Whelp, now my gauge only lights up in the center (speedometer), while the tach and fuel gauge are dark. Any advice there? You seemed like the one to ask. If one blows, do they both go dark? It happened when I took the gauge off but I was very careful and everything is connected as it should be.

CZroe, what gauge set-up are you running? I might not be able to look into this until tomrrow, but i will make sure to follow up with you as soon as I can.

It's the stock gauge but I confirmed that the bulbs are simply blown even though I still don't know what caused it. I just don't see how it could be coincidence that they both blew when I took the gauge out (replaced the trip reset button rubber cap). I just hope whatever caused it isn't going to do it to my replacements. If it does, then I'll know that I have an electrical problem.

I'm always careful after seeing how quickly a car bulb will blow if you handle it with your oily hands, so I never touched them directly. Even though I'm not sure how important it is with bulbs like these, I'll be using fresh latex gloves when I install my new 194B (BLUE!) replacements.

CZroe, did you have the battery disconnected when you removed and re-installed your gauge harness? What year is the bike so I can look up a wiring diagram?

Nope, but I think I know why now. I had the bike off when I disconnected it but I tried to see which of the two connectors controlled the turn signal flasher by connecting it and disconnecting it. I may have forgotten to turn the key off one of those times. Bike is a current-generation model (2008).

Well, they told me that 194 was brighter than 168 and that stock was probably 168, but these look dimmer than the stock white bulbs so... *shrug* It's hard to tell that they are on unless it's dark.

Glancing at them in the dark they look plenty visible enough but it's hard to say how "deep" it looks. It has to shine through and around a lot of dark gauge faces (2008 model had black-face instrumentation).

I would think that UV with UV reactive instrumentation would be way cooler. I wonder if you can get UV/blacklight bulbs in 168/194 form factor. Hmm.

The gauge lights may have experienced a voltage surge which caused them to burn out. This is what I would suspect since you haven't had problems with them in the past and the problem occurred when the bike was off. Just to be safe, you could check the positive wires going into the gauges for resistance. Hope this helps. It's good practice to always disconnect the battery when you are working on the electrical system to try and avoid problems like this.

Jordan

Well I figured I'd try out the heated grips since I need another pair. Guess we will see how they compare to Symtec!
