Ninja250r Vs Honda civic type R
I own a 2010 ninja 250 with 1050 miles on the clock. The other day I set out early for work and found myself next to a Honda civic type R at the lights. It was the model before the latest one (0-60 in 6.3 secs)
I owned one for a while . They quick cars that rev to 9K. The civic had a sports exhaust on by the sound of it. Anyway the lights changed and off we went flat out to about 60mph where I had to turn off. I pulled away from him up till 40ish. He was neck and neck with me till 50. Then He smoked me Ninja did o.k up to 50ish. It was 200Hp Vs 30Hp lol. |

I think you may have done it wrong. Unless that civic was supped up a bit more than just the exhaust. What rpm did u launch at?

Maybe he's a big guy? Weight makes a huge difference on a bike with sub-30 horsepower. So does incline.

Sean describes it well (whether it was a joke or not).
Honda makes lovely torque-less motors that make unbelievable power on the top end. This scenario sounds about right to me, regardless of the weight of the rider. Oh, and uh, street racing is silly and potentially dangerous.

Paul my comment about "street racing" was a joke. I mean honestly, if any guy (or girl that likes cars or bikes for that matter) can honestly raise their hand and say they have never done a stoplight drag race, then they are a saint.
There is a big difference between accelerating to 60-70 mph having a friendly straight line contest with the car or bike next to you and actual street racing.

correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks just like a Civic Si. We have lots of those and they're awesome, and I want one!
and yes the vTec engine is great. My '95 civic with 188,000 miles (and climbing) is pretty gutless, but if you get it above 4k, it can keep its' own. In fact, its kind of fun in a slow way |

That older model type R with 197 HP was a real cult car in the U.K. Every Boy Racer wanted one lol. I think the japanese market version was even quicker with well over 200 HP. |

Sounds like fun! I'v yet to have a stoplight race on my 250, I'm pretty sure the only cars that try to race me from stop lights would leave me in the dust. So I'd just rather not try I don't need any more tickets.

Any of the newer 05+ Si here in the states would kill the 250 especially 50mph and up.. I use to have a 89civic hb, had a h22 motor.. that little car was fun.

I wouldn't say a Si would "kill" a 250. They're pretty much even up to about 60, at which point the Si starts to get away.

i believe the 2nd gen type R which the op is speaking of was made in the uk and mainly sold there.. not sure why.. dont think that year civic 7th gen 01-05, was very popular among the civic crowd.. the previous gen civic seems to be the most popular, 96-00 especially the 99-00 civic si having to be the most sought after civic in the US. or around me anyway ..haha!

I agree, I think the 92-00 Civics were the best. I drive a 95 ex coupe and have been to the dealer a few times to test drive the 2006-2011 civics and also the new one that just came out and I can't bring my self to replace my trusty 95 (which is in excellent shape).

My one buddy has Been a Honda Guy since high-school..getting a new civic every 4-5 yrs. He went to trade his 06 si in a month or so ago and they were jumping all over him to buy his old one.. think they offered him like 15k.. he paid 21k for it 5 yrs ago. Can't beat there resale value.

I'm not too surprised. Some days my bike feels fast, and other days it feels slow. There are so many variables..... most of us here are re-jetting, etc., which makes a big difference, but how many of us do it less than optimally (I am raising my own hand)? I have smoked cars, and been smoked by soccer mom's too. I did beat a Ferrari once (stayed within 10 mph of speed limit), but I don't think he got the memo we were racing

This thread made me miss one of my old project cars. 1995 Civic Hatch CX with a K20A out of a 2005 DC5 Type R from Japan. Wow did that car ever move with full bolt ons and a tune.

This entire thread has made me nostalgic about my '95 GS-R. Mmmm...8000 redline in a car? Yes please. Back when that was something special.
All of Honda's performance-oriented cars have had really great engines.

Yeah, it was 8100, but honestly I had already typed 8000 and I thought, "I should go back and change that." But then I was like, "Nah, who's gonna notice?" Oops!

i find it more fun to beat up on civis on the ninja than in my jetta...@1946lbs and 493whp/406ft.lbs...most cars dont stand a chance..
btw..that civic makes 200chp...crank hors epower..not wheel..maybe 160wheel and it weighs 3k pounds...

not that i've seen on my dyno....most guys make 168whp in the newer kseries...
either way..99% of the ricers you will run into..own a loud slow car....it's hard to come by a clean, simple fast honda anymore....but meh...every car maker has the "ricer" type. my redline is 8800. with my cams, it keeps me in the powerband of my turbo from 3500 all the way to 8800. i would dig an EK and a legitimate H22 with a 70mm snail
