What you guys think of this..

I found an F4i with 14k+ miles on her. I think she's hot, and looks really clean...I'm going to go look at her next friday, but today I was checking on the dealer's website I c this gorgeous gsxr600. It's an 05 with 27k on her. I'm drooling, but also a little worried about the mileage. My theory is since it's at dealership and looks this clean, maybe there's a high chance it might not have been abused. According to the little description, it was made in the house (meaning the scheme and all).. It's going for 4799...

what do you guys think? of course am gonna scrutinize it.. But what should I look for? what could possibly be hiding underneath all this bute..?

The best thing to do is do a tonne of research on every common thing that is wrong on this generation of bike, then check those things on the bike and test ride it. I'm not sure how mechanically inclined you are, but if it feels and sounds fine, it's generally going to be fine. Just pay attention to the lights on the dash, the noises it makes during start-up, and engine sounds. At least for me, I was so used to the inherent simplicity of the Ninja 250 that I glazed over all the lights on the dash of my 06 gsxr 750. Lucky for me, it turned out to just be a common set valve problem with a simple fix (something that good research would have revealed before my purchase). Electronic issues can be one of the hardest and most expensive (and not to mention frustrating) things to fix.

PS: Although low mileage is desired, I don't think it's a make or break feature of a sale as long as the machine had any semblance of maintenance. The current state of the bike (not talking about cosmetics, but rather the mechanics) should be a clear indication of its maintenance history.

I'd actually be inclined to believe a bike with that much mileage was used for commuting of some sort, and was probably reasonably well cared for. Nevertheless, I'd inspect anything I intend to use to travel 60+mph on very carefully. As @bkh2 says, this is a much more complex bike than the 250 is, it behooves you to be thorough in inspecting it before buying.

Also, those decals on it are fugly, and I'm not sure I'd care to ride on anything that was apparently named "The Punisher" by its previous owner. That seems like a name that has to be earned.

I think the bike is over priced for that year and mileage.

sounds like a grade A stealership to me

I wouldnt care about the miles though. People are only scared of high miles on bikes because they barely ever see any with high miles, and thats because squids by the big bikes, crash them 1k miles in and sells them cause they are scared. Bikes with high miles are probably better taken care of then a squid machine with 2k

stay away from the stealerships if your so inclined you could always pay a guy on CL an extra 1000$ to wear a polo shirt with a logo and lie to you about how the PO treated the bike.

Offer $4000 and he has to get that punisher junk off the bike. Mileage isn't bad, that's only alittle over 3000 miles per year.

My 06 GSXR has 27k and still runs like a champ. These bikes come alive at 25k.

How much do they want for the F4i? FWIW, I bought a F4i race bike with Ohlins rear, Ohlins damper, gold valves, and a full yosh system (granted, with race fairings vs street fairings with lights) for $2500. In 2009. Trade-in value for an '06 F4i is ~$3k, and an '02 is under $2k, so low-ball the hell out of them, since you know they gave any excuse they could to pay less than that when the P.O. traded it in.

Definitely overpriced for that year and mileage, definitely look around cycletrader, craigslist, and ebay...you'll find a great deal soon.

Get the F4i. Honda reliability > Suzuki.

Make sure you do a valve check on it though if you do, the 15k check is often skipped on CBRs since they usually don't need them, but mine was skipped and by 24k the intake valves were so tight the bike would barely start.

Stickers or graphics throw red flags for me personally. I've seen 600's with 55k+ that run great but they were also cared for. Good luck with your search.
