08-12 Water pump
Sup folks,
Are these water pumps rebuildable? I haven't found anything for rebuilding them. 180 for a new pump seems a bit steep. I found out that the weep hole on my 08 was plugged with what seems to be built up rust from the shaft. I'd like to take it apart to inspect it, but haven't found anything online showing how to do so for this bike. Seems like the impeller is pressed onto the shaft-end. Thanks.

what do you mean by weep hole?
The part of the pump with the impeller is sealed to prevent coolant leaking into engine cases. |

Just buy a lightly used (<6,000 miles) one off ebay. That's the cheaper option and you're basically getting a new part at that point.
That's what I did. Works like a charm. I think the one I'm using on my pregen is off a newgen, IIRC. Bolts right up. |

At the bottom of the pump there is a tiny hole. It's located between the impeller and oil case end seals. It's for coolant to drip out of if it starts getting past the impeller seal.

I just find it odd that the pump can't be torn down and rebuilt. The impeller seems pressed on. On other pumps I've rebuilt there was a nut on the impeller and rebuild kits available. Just seems a bit lame to have to replace the whole pump.
