New Jersey rider ready for a life changer
Just passed the msf course this weekend and got me a 1992 ninja 250r. So excited to learn on this thing and feel what its really like to own a motorcycle.
I just have a few common questions that could probably be answered by linking me to another post or thread, but one, I need new tires and I'm not too sure about what is good. I wont be doing any track days or anything (yet) just mainly commuting and just fun. Shopping around for good tires is tough. Also, is there any mods I should consider for my bike? I would like to add frame sliders or something, but I cant seem to find any that fit it. I can do without a custom exhaust because I don't need to compensate for anything . Any other tips are appreciated as well, like maintenance or even just tips on basic things you notice on your ninja. I'm very excited to be joining the club! |

Welcome Derek!
Being new is sooooo much fun because everything is a fresh experience. Your tire question... https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/What_t...fit_the_250%3F The BT45's or Sport Demons are standards on these bikes. As far as other mods I would make at this time would be continued mods to the rider's skills and knowledge. Poke around this wiki https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Ninja250_Howto and get familiar with how your bike works and learn to do the normal maintenance items (oil, brakes, coolant, ect...). Hmmmm... not sure I have ever seen any sliders for a pregen, but I haven't really looked either. If you must make a mod, flush mount front signals can save you some cracked fairings if your bike falls on it side. Good luck! Have fun!

Welcome, Derek!
Good for you for starting off on the right foot with the MSF course. Keep it sane as you learn and get experience. Enjoy the journey! If you like tinkering, a motorcycle is a great way to satisfy that urge. Get hold of a factory maintenance manual (might no longer be in print, but there are lots of PDFs floating around) and get some grease under your fingernails. It's very rewarding. Invest in good safety gear -- full-face helmet and real motorcycle clothing, including jacket, gloves, boots and pants (cheap closeout mesh does not count). Road rash sucks!!! If you've picked up a 25-year-old bike you're likely on a budget, but that should not stop you. The cost of a visit to the hospital dwarfs the cost of gear... even top-shelf gear (check my blogs for an example). Be smart. It's WAY cheaper in the long run to protect yourself. As you gain confidence and experience, unleash the secret of the Ninjette that makes it so much fun... the party starts at 9,000 rpm.....

Welcome!
As far as tires, I put Shinkos on my bike and love 'em. I'll have to look up the model but they're great. I'd say focus more on riding technique and staying safe than mods. Anything truly interesting will cross your path without trying too hard. |
