What Should I Watch Out For?

I'll be looking for a Newgen soon to be used mostly for track days, club racing events, etc. Do these bikes have any particular issues that I need to watch out for? Is one year better than another?

TIA

I'm not aware of any major differences between the '08-12 models? Main upgrade that should be done is suspension, then brakes. Although if you want to go fast, just use less brakes, so they're really not that important.

Club racing?

Then you need to be on the lookout for mods that are against the rules of your club race rulebook. While some are easy to revert or remod, other internal engine mods may be a deal breaker for a new bike purchase.

Good luck and happy racing!

Are cam chain tensioners a problem with these engines?

Not really, no more than normal anyway. For many of us, they never are an issue. Otherwise a quick clean of the cct does the trick much of the time. If not, just replace with oem or manual.

Doh!

Thanks Jim.

p.s.: I was blowing through the clutch on the H2 up at Loring, going to try one of Ralf's lockups this winter

I read about that, Frank. That Shipman clutch looks excellent. I'll be looking forward to your evaluation of it.
