Wow those are really bad ! I can't wait to see the results !
you might use a heat gun to heat the carb base to get the jets out !
I've snapped off pilot jets before in carbs like that !!!!
good luck !

Bob......

were in such poor condition, achieving throttle plate/shaft motion took awhile. Both carbs were frozen solid. Note "were". Jets out/back in after my normal treatment. Getting there, need 1 more day to complete them.

recently did carbs for a certain EX500 owner, he reinstalled them yesterday, became anxious to hear it start/run......however, without the OEM air filter.

He reported the bike started/idled ok, but upon throttle, puked at 1/4 to 1/3 throttle.
Answering his text, I made him aware that the filter supplies somewhat of a restriction, which the carbs require by design. I suggested he give it up till he had the "missing piece" installed. Today he texted, reporting it "passed with flying colors".
So I offer y'all.....keep in mind the difficulties running without airbox or filter, or testing carbs without same.

You must be looking at the tiny pilot screw orings, top/right side of carb in pic.

insides as well, ty BK

Upon opening, found the decel valve diaphragm was firmly attached to body, ZERO movement. And both floats offered vastly differing heights. Both issues corrected, should be fine runners now.

been awhile....bad news to report today.

A completed (refurbed) EX500 carb set has disappeared from USPS tracking while en route back to owner. First time this has happened in all my time doing this stuff.

Giving it 1 more day to show up....but if not I'll make good by shipping a replacement refurb from my stock at no charge to the very patient owner.

Man Gordon that is very nice of you !
as many times as you ship stuff you know it is bound to happen...by the sheer odds alone if nothing else....the worse part is they probably will never be used
for anything now.... and wind up sitting on the thief's shelf. but he's got another box stolen ! damm mail thieves need to be drawn and quartered !

been awhile........

Did a Yamaha Mikuni carb from an ATV today, float seat was destroyed by a PO, thankfully replaceable. Done, completed and even wet tested to assure no leaks and a perfect float level. Should be a bolt-on runner.

Cleaned the carbs, reset float bowl height and replaced the rubbers between the airbox and the carbs. That last item made a great difference. The old rubbers didn't look too bad but the close fit of the replacements sealed them tight. I could never quite get the old ones to sit nice. This bike only has 6K miles on it but the clutch must of had a hard life from the previous owner who put 5K miles on it. The friction plates were worn below limit and the clutch springs were below minimum length. Although it wasn't slipping the feel on the new clutch is much sharper now. Plus I treated it to Castrol Power 1 Racing (which I think is the equivalent to Castrol Power 1 Stateside).

performed a refurb on a Honda XL600R single cylinder/twin carb finished a few days ago. Found incorrect, undersized pilot jets, whacked out float/fuel levels.
Made corrections, delivered carbs and actually worked on the bike locally, owned by a good friends boss. Reset tight valve adjustments then reset fuel/air ratio (via the piot screw) and idle speed while running.

Fully successful, no more stalling, even starts up easier.

was that XR600R a stock bike or were the carbs added by the owner ? never herd of a single with twin carbs...except for home mods !
... one thing for sure single cylinder bikes can take alot of abuse in the carb department....knowing that most carb problems are self induced i haven't touched the carb on my XR650L ! LOL and it still starts and runs like a new bike !.... when in doubt don't touch it Bob ! HAHAHAH

specifically an '85 XL600

the LH (master) carb contains both main, idle and choke circuits...the RH secondary carb slide is timed to rise later, without choke or idle circuits. All factory designed/built.

oh oh, trouble in paradise....a frozen in place pilot screw required drilling and an easy out to remove

A carb kit has been ordered for needed orings and pilot screw as well. In the meantime, cleaning all disassembled components.
