fixing broken fairing???

I'm thinking of looking at an 08 that has been crashed, the guy has no pictures but says some of the fairings are broken (only one side, yeah right). Is there a glue that will hold this plastic together while I wait for Airtech replacements? Really trying to decide if it is worth even going to look at when there could be $800 worth of body work needing to be done. Has it listed for $1800 with 5600 miles of probably squidly riding. No way I'd go over $1500 for it though, especially if I have to load it in a truck to get it home.

I would definitely show up with a couple rolls of gaffer tape to try and hold things together long enough to make a 30 mile trip home.

Epoxy for ABS plastic. You should be able to find it at any autopart store. Comes in two tube like syringe.

Thanks. With the 2 or so months left in this season, gluing might be the best repair for a while.

Did a quick google and found that I could use the same solvent glue that I have for bonding clear acrylic so it might be an easy job to hold the pieces together. I'll have to call and see if the bike is still available and take a look to see how bad the frame and other components are scarred/twisted.

Salvaged often means that you can never sell it again, kind of like self made cars.

I see salvaged bikes for sale all the time, they are just selling for 1/3 of what the non salv ones go for.

so ya, resell value is gone

I lowsided when i first got my bike and immediately replaced the fairing, i thought the damage was horrible at the time. Now I see its not too bad, it has a small piece from the center(right behind the turn lamp) broken out but i fits right back into the slot so it would need to be glued and the paint is scuffed. If you stand a bit away you cant notice any damage at all, is it worth anything?

Yeah put it up on ebay if you wanna make a few bones off of it. People with the no-how repair slightly damaged ones for replacements all the time because it can be cheaper.

Give me a week to find out about this bike, I may want your broken pieces.

Seller says in the add that it is a clear title which suggests he is just eating the cost and didn't have insurance pay for the bike. Salvaged titles are really only good for the racers and they rarely care about title at all.

I'm still concerned about the frame and that it could be bent. I'm also concerned because the guy didn't use any capital letters and no punctuation in the add, that is normally the sign of someone that you might not want to do business with.

That said this is the only "broken" bike in the area that isn't priced by someone on crack! Pretty much all the EX250 are priced way higher than they should be. One guy has an 09 with a couple thousand on it, wants $3400, I can buy a new SE for $4100 from the dealer and can probably get that lower since it is pretty much end of season here and I have cash in hand. If I wasn't looking for cheap so that I can afford some mods and tires, I would think long and hard about the new showroom bike as it is a much better deal than something beaten from a squid.
