How much power does the 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT+ produce? We place Suzuki’s newest sport tourer on the Cycle World dyno to find out.

The 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT and GSX-S1000GT+ models are the Hamamatsu-based manufacturer’s fresh take on sport-touring. As we’ve seen in several other Suzuki models, the GTs adopt existing designs and pair them with new ideas.

The GSX-S1000GT is powered by a variation of the famed long-stroke 999cc inline-four engine of the K5 GSX-R, but “retuned for midrange” to make it more suitable for a sport-touring platform. It’s a story we’ve heard before with various Suzuki road-going models, including the Katana and outgoing GSX-S1000F.

The differences in the GT’s tune are a new set of camshafts with decreased lift and less overlap to not only help in meeting tightening emissions standards but also balancing performance and rideability. Updated valve springs are calibrated to the new camshafts, and the new cam-chain tensioner and tensioner adjuster reduce friction and improve durability. The new stainless steel 4-2-1 exhaust system has also been redesigned in comparison to the GSX-S1000F. Finally, a set of ride-by-wire throttle bodies provide the engine’s fueling and allows control of its electronic rider-aid suite, including the Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) with three selectable throttle response settings, Traction Control (TC), and Bidirectional Quick Shift system (QS).

(Robert Martin Jr./)Following Cycle World’s first ride review of the 2022 GSX-S1000GT+, we ran the Suzuki on our in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer, recording horsepower and torque measurements. The GT produced 135.53 hp at 10,360 rpm and 73.15 pound-feet of torque at 9,190 rpm. Torque spread is flat and broad, boasting over 60 pound-feet of torque from roughly 4,750 rpm and doesn’t taper until the 10,000 rpm threshold for tractable and usable delivery. For reference, the last time we ran a true K5 on our dyno, it produced 156.9 hp at 11,500 rpm and 78.9 pound-feet of torque at 8,600 rpm.

The GSX-S1000GT+ may not be the ripping original K5, but holds its place as a sweet sport-tourer.
