there was a police report but there was no info for car, and she just bought the bike and it wasnt registered in her name and the previous owner lied to us saying it was up to date with registration (had a 2015 sticker) but it was backed up to 2013 and had 700$ of fees, so it got impounded....i just got it out yesterday with 350$ of impound fees......this whole thing was a mess and i had to first gear all the way home (8miles) and im sure thats not good for the engine at all

sticker fraud is a felony. give the cops the PO's info. take the PO to small claims court for the fees.

any help is truly appreciated in this rough time for her...

this weekend my girlfriend got hit by a car on a motorcycle taking a left turn, the car hit her straight on her ankle/foot and crushed it which broke it and other bones, also making her foot go into the pegs and going into her foot and cut it up, the car destroyed the bike, severly injured her and ran away.....we are asking if anyone can help with any donataion, 25 cents, 50 cents, 1 dollar,10 dollars, ANYTHING will help! please think about it, i just want her to recover and not worry about the money...

PO still committed a felony that you had to pay for. tell them they can pay you directly in cash or you will take them to small claims court. you will win in small claims court.

Don't insurance companies check for your vehicle registration status when you sign up for a policy?

Edit: oh she just got it. That really sucks. Sorry that it happened

I think they just look for a title in your name, vin. Then from there the vehicle has to pass inspection in last 12 months and then you can get registration. The DMV will give you a registration as long as all others are certified.

Sorry to hear. Hope she gets better. Hopefully you will find the time later on to repair the bike as it's not a priority at this point. Focus on the health and recovery of your girlfriend and whatever medical expenses you will incur. worry about the bike later when you have the time and money.

Again sorry to hear and I responded to your other thread. but this spamming the go-fund me in all your posts seems a bit like a red flag.... I'm here to help but I'm not picking up the tab every time someone wrecks their bike. You just joined the site. How about posting the fund raiser on her Facebook for her friends and family's support ?
Hopefully she was insured , medically and for the motorcycle.
Sorry. Not trying to be rude or insincere , just stating the obvious.

Why don't you take the money for fixing the bike and use it on your girlfriend's bills first?

It's pretty tacky to come on a site as a new member and share a sob story asking for money. Many of us take risks (motorcycle and or otherwise), some of us have crashed and crashed hard or have had friends who have crashed, but they don't put up gofundme pages begging for money. Nor would I expect society to pay for every choice and risk I choose to partake in. I hope your girlfriend is ok, but this doesn't bode well for me.

You can't Adam. If warranted, a mod will remove or merge related or similar content.

Here is how I would proceed; you have a new member thread and a crash thread. Post in them with a degree of separation if ya feel me.

Good luck!

there is 100% no reason to not have insurance on the bike. And I am having a hard time trusting your story is real.

It happens...

Just renewed the registrations on all 3 of my street my bikes in Jan. Proof of insurance is required in KY at the time of registration. Only two where checked for insurance, it was just a human error by the clerk.

I merged the two similar threads into this one, and moved the parts wanted thread over here. Please don't start duplicate threads on the same topic in multiple spots on the site, they will just get merged or deleted anyway. (the former if it's unintentional, the latter if it annoys me ). Because some of the posts were out of order, this newly combined thread looks a little wonky, but I think people get the gist.

Did your girlfriend have any motorcycle training? Where did she take the MSF?

I think it differs from state to state. Proof of insurance is not required in NJ for registration (and transfer of title....to pay for the tax).

However, going forward, everyone should take this as a lesson. When you go buy a used bike from a private seller, speak with the seller ahead of time to get the VIN number.

With that VIN number, call your insurance company and get a quote. That quote will stay in their system for a few weeks.

When you show up to buy the bike, call the insurance company before you ride home and activate the policy. This way the bike is insured. The insurance company won't care if the bike is registered or not.

******************************
Regarding fraud alert: I didn't want to say it. But being born and raised in NYC and having lived in SE Asia for quite some time, I am extremely cynical. Once I saw the gofundme page and saw the picture, I immediately noticed that her right foot is in a cast. However, you stated that she got "left hooked" by a car. The point of impact should be on her left side.

But that is neither here nor there. I just didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to be the asshat to voice my observation and be called out on it.
******************************

But I hope your gf heals up quickly. Also, being 18 years old, you can still be a classified as a dependent on a parent's health insurance if you meet a few criteria. One of which is if she were still in school. Is she in school?
