Aftermarket headlight or headlight conversion.

I'm almost positive that headlight conversions to something that can actually be called a light have been done before on these pregens.

I think user Luvninja did a 08-12 headlight but I can't see pics outside of google image search bringing up the thread. (thanks photobucket, you're my hero!)

I've seen ONE projector retrofit DIY but that was for an EX500...

Then there is the typical streetfighter 7" round headlight conversion that I'm not really decided on...

What about something like an Acerbis aftermarket headlight/fairing?

Does anybody have a link to 'shed some light' on this?

OR rather...what have you done to illuminate your way? (aside from sticking a flashlight on your helmet?)

after market lighting

not sure whats good for you but i want to fab up some brackets and some offroad leds to either side of the ninja like you would see on the big adventure bikes. they would be useful for camping and road trips.

I've also thought about that, maybe a pair of LED projectors...

My brother has done this on his car. I may go this route!

Hey my thread!

Remember the halogen bowl is really shallow so get the shortest projector you can. Also the ring with the H4 clip is not solidly mounted in the bowl; you'll need to use to quik steel or similar epoxy putty all around that and smoothed through to get that ring solid.

To minimize effects of lens fluting, position projector as close to it as possible on back side.

^^ Like I said before, there's not much depth in this housing. Even with the shortest projector I could find, the projector was touching the fluting.

I know you did your retro a few years ago, but have you seen these projectors?

https://www.theretrofitsource.com/pr...chbox-2-0.html

how big are yours compared to those?

Did a quick comparison, looks like your projectors would be about 30mm deeper (almost 1.25")

Did you use the castle nut mount?

I'm aware of those; they're itty bitty. But they also don't quite have the width or power of their full sized brethren.

Yes, I used the threaded shaft and nut to mount it. That's how I learned the H4 holder is just lightly pressed into the reflector bowl. That shakes a bit with the weight of the projector in it.

Ahh, good point about the power...I was just thinking along the lines of it being easier to fit since you said you were touching the glass with the projector...

Think creatively; if you can make a mounting plate to replace the reflector bowl, you could mount 2. But this is a smaller headlight than it looks when you're looking at 2 items inside.

I was thinking of making a housing for it, then using lexan and molding a cover off of the outer lens so it would fit the fairing.

Then I could mount all kinds of stuff!

Yeah... tried that route. Lexan is tricky stuff. Bubbles easily. I made a mold and everything without any luck. I tried a few times and gave up on that endeavor.
