Testing if engine can reach NEAR its redline

hey everyone, lets hope this is a good question.

So i have this 08 ninja 250r...
know absolutely nothing about it from PO

managed to get it working......simple cleaned and retuned the carbs

it has a yoshimura slipon exhaust......dosent backfire when reved to 4000

ive ridden it only in first gear due to space but its B E A utiful to ride.....good clutch still

AND HERE'S MY NOOB QUESTION

i wanna know it the bike will rev in neutral up too near its redline......as ive only had it up to 5600 max so far

1. Am i right that it can be harmful for prolonged periods of time
2. Is it done at a slight risk of braking your pistons bearing or link rods(always get this term mixed up) due to not being under load
3. It causes slight unnecessary wear on your engine components

i would love to hear everyones thoughts about this

I can't think of any good reason to do that. I've never done it to any engine I've owned in my 61 years.

Couple things You need to know
That generatin does not have a revlimiter. It’ll go as high as it wants to until it ejects parts.
No load high speed is probably the worst thing you can do to an engine. And, it won’t prove your carburator cleaning job of the mains. The engine needs to be under load to use the large a,ount of fuel the mains provide. So, got it out on the road and run it up in 2nd to 12,500. No point pulling past that as the power starts dropping off.

As noted, no reason to rev that high in neutral. On the road when under load it's fine as long as the engine is properly tuned/adjusted and oil is good and at the proper level.

I'll counter your question with another.....WHY? Precisely what are you attempting to prove? ....(that can't be proven on a proper road test while under load)

Obviously you've got your answers ...do so at your own peril....and a shining undeniable example in form of @jkv45 Youtube vid.

I'd be compelled to ask the guy in the vid, too....just what was he trying to prove or what diagnostic mechanical methodology he was practicing?

My '12 has a rev limiter, I've bounced off it. Why wouldn't the '08?

I occassionally hit redline on my '08 track bike. Get too excited chasing bigger bike and don't realize I'm acceleration faster than normal. Then all of sudden, bike stops accelerating. Time to shift!

Also without resistance from being connected to gearbox and driving bike, tension forces on con-rods on exhaust stroke will be tremendous! Over 10000 lbs! Good way snap rod and destroy engine, trying to redline in neutral.
