600 or maybe not?

How many times have you heard "Thats the 600, right?"...

I totally amazes me how many times Ive had people think that the 250R is a 600. I thought everyone could spot one of these a mile away. Cracks me up. And I dont mean just non-riders...Ive had other bikers ask me that...at BIKE meets....and they were riding sportbikes.

Um...no...its the 250.

I get it all the time....plus more. I've been asked if it was a 750 or 1000 multiple times as well. In the past 1.5-2 years I've had a total of 3 people actually recognize the bike as a 250.

It was real bad in Florida. I guess because they aren't very common down there. I became so sick of it, I just put the 250R decals on the back of the bike. Now instead of asking if it's a 250, they go "DAG... That's a 250?" I laugh every time.

My friend who own a 08 250R didn't recognize me even less my bike (also a 250R) and thought I was just another guy on a 600. ahah! Confuses even owners.

The only people around here who could tell are the guys at the local Cycle Gear, based on the oil filters that I buy.

I stopped for gas on the way to school this afternoon, and this guy in a truck pulled in right behind me, and jumped out just to ask me about it. He said all his friends were telling him to get a 600, and he was asking about how it rides on the highway. He was only the second person to recognize what it was, and both times it was people who were thinking about buying one.

I don't know why but most people seem to think its a 750. Then I tell them its a 250 and they are like "O rly?" lol.

It happens more on teh newer ones.. but with my pregen I did have people asking if it was a 600 or 750 sometimes... but the older ones are typically more recognizable as 250s.. the new ones are made to look 'bigger' for a reason... to sell!

There was someone that posted a pic of his 600RR next to his 250R... so close in size and looks....

They are great lookin.. especially in green.. but the difference between a 250 and a 600 is immediately felt.. and I dont mean just with the throttlehand... I still miss my 250 sometimes though.. such a great ride.

One guy rode in to work with a 600RR. It actually looked SMALLER than my 250.

It's not surprising. The bike was designed to look more like the larger Kawi sport bikes. So unless you can recognize specific features to tell you it is a 250, you would never know. And I would imagine most people do not know the model well enough to spot the differences right away. In fact, even though I do know the differences, I have come up on a 4th generation 250 and not realized it until I was close to it. Two of the things that I do notice right away which give it away are the higher handlebars, and the skinny back tire.

I got that all the time with my 250. People would ask "How come you took off one of the brake rotors?" I'd tell 'em it was a 250, and only had one rotor up front, then they'd have to go looking for a 600 to see if I was lying to them.

thats a great question - how come you took off one of the brake rotors? How could you even answer that. Maybe "some s.o.b. stole the disc and the caliper."

Or you could answer that you had to remove the disc because the owner used a caliper lock on it.

Now that is good, just to see the other guy's reaction. Then you could ask the person "hey nice car/bike, where do you live or work?"

Ive gotten asked the same thing afew times last year also, but even when i was still Looking to Buy mine months b4, i was able to spot the difference!

Real killer is if parked next to another ZX6R or sort...

(See rear tire size?) 130wide Vs 180-190wide HUGE give away!

I have yet to have my Pre-Gen mistaken for a "non-girly bike". BUT, I end up riding with the ones that give me poo about it, and they don't say much after a good ride.

Believe it or not some squids around here do that to their bigger bikes in order to show off their chrome rims. I saw a CBR 954 a while back that had the chromed extended swing arm, frame, and wheels, and had only one rotor up front.

Kept wondering if it pulled to the left when they grabbed a fistful of front brake.

One of the things that drew me to the new-gen was its similarity to a 600 in size. I'm 6'2", and I couldn't have anything smaller (dimensionally) than a 600. I'm thinking I'll ultimately be most comfortable on a sport-tourer like the Sprint ST, but I can't see myself giving up the 250.
