Going to Switch Up to ZX6r
Hey guys,
So I'm going to do the upgrade from my 250 to an 09 ZX6r. Dealership is giving me $3000 for my 250 which i think isn't too bad. I had put it on Craigslist and i found that there were two more others selling in my area for $3400. Its going to happen next Friday so I'm super excited. I'm going to stay on this forum if no one kicks me out because this is probably the best motorcycle forum on the internet. Great people giving great advice and no drama.

So if a 600 will do all that. What will a 1,000 do?

It's been discussed before, that miles are pretty much irreverent and that people learn at different paces although more riding time does help. Like I said before Crzy be very careful with the throttle because its no 250. Turning will also be different (more leaning) it almost feels as if i have to pull my 600 down with me to turn quickly its not like the 250 where you pretty much "steer" it. Always take your time with learning don't try and go out and ride like you rode your 250 because they're 2 very different bikes. Other than that congrats on getting your 600 you will love it, never have ridden a zx6r but from what people say its awsome. I have my eyes set on a cbr 600rr next summer.

hey thanks for everyone. For sure i'll post pics. Now i have to sit at home waiting while it stays at the dealership for a week!
i have had my 250 for almost two years. Only reason i'm doing this is because I feel ready to move on. For sure, I'm going to be careful. Since I'm doing this on a Friday, I'm going to spend Saturday and Sunday getting the feel of the bike somewhere with little traffic and get used to the throttle and braking and also the seat height cuz i am kind of tip-toe on it. its all a learning process Thanks for the advice on the differences. I just have to take it slow and easy until i know how much i can handle the bike at a given time. The more comfortable i get, the more i can "let the bike go" within my control.

The first time you take the zx6r on the highway you will fall in love.
When I traded in my 250 ninja I rode my ZX6R home during mid rushover over 20 miles lol. Just be careful and smart about it. |

Ya that initial "blurry, tunnel vision" effect you get the first time you open up that throttle is wonderful. Savour it though, because you get used to it eventually.

I guess I'm more worried about backing out rather than stopping at a light. i know ill be okay at stop lights cuz i usually don't put that much pressure on my legs anyway. im going to ride it on friday and see if i feel like they need to shave the seat. don't know how they will do that cuz they told me it will take 4 days. so does that mean the bike will be stuck there? or will they let me borrow a seat or what.

Congrats on the switch. You will enjoy it.
Jump over the the zx6r.net forum. Great place to learn about your bike, though it is down right now. The community is very cool, just not as cool as Ninjette's. |

Very unlikely to forget...but just shift your weight forward. If your weight is at the front even if you do WOT it might raise few inches but you will not weelie. Note that all the riders are almost in tuck in position from the standing start race to minimize the front raising up.

I doubt you will forget and wind the throttle too far. FI'd I4s have such crisp throttle response you get almost instant feedback. What will take getting used to, as someone else mentioned, is the handling. Bulkier. Cornering will take much more throttle control and different lines through turns. So take those slower to start. Are they gonna set up the suspension for you? That will help a lot with getting used to cornering it. The other thing to be careful of is fooling around. I wound out 1st gear in a parking lot, then locked up the rear as I was going way to fast and ended up highsiding like superman into a curb. Thank god I had gear on. No bumps or bruises, besides my ego. Broke a brake pedal, and some scratches on fairings , slider and exhaust. I learned a low cost respect lesson though. Haven't messed around on a bike since. The reason I moved away form the 750 was it's terrrible mileage, 37MPG was the best I got, so fill ups every 100 miles sucked. That and the seating position left a lot to be desired. Talk about back pain. But. That was a Suzuki. Never sat on a ZX6R so the ergos may be a lot better. Anyway, sounds like this has been a long time coming for you. Enjoy! Bob |

I like the '09 ZX6R. If I didn't get such a great deal on my '09 600RR I would have gotten the '09 ZX6R.

Enjoy it and get some pics for us. I haven't ridden the 600 series Ninja's, but my 9R definitely requires a lot more effort to make it turn and to transition from side to side, in comparison to smaller bikes (ESPECIALLY the 250). It also soaks up the road on longer rides and doesn't tire me out as much. There are always trade offs.
