For the young people...

...never heard the voice of the famous Porsche 911 RS 3.0
Please realize that this car has absolute no electrical helpers, servos or anything else what weak people need.
Enjoy one round on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the best driver the world has ever seen: Walter Röhrl.
And know, he's not going real full speed, he is only driving quick, since this is a very valuable car.

Listen to the sound of the engine:

Link to original page on YouTube.

I know here is for motorcycles but I think you also drive a car and some of you would like to have a Porsche, because this is a real men's dream.

That track is so much nicer when you have it to yourself.

I love Porsches. I've had a number of them. My friend, and mechanic, has had two RS's and did a total restoration on a Speedster than was in Panarama Magazine recently.

my uncle has always been a porsche owner. had an old RS at one point. that thing was scary. he actually taught my oldest sister how to drive in it (as well as how to do donuts in it! hah) i think he sold it and switched to a lotus esprit after that. my brother currently has an '88 911 SC that he lets me drive. crap its fun. an old coworker of mine had a 911 turbo S (the lightweight one) ... jesus that thing had too much power, he said 460 something hp... it felt like a rocket ship. only thing that compares to it is my other coworkers 911 carerra S. he does autocross with it and has it all fancy and stuff. dear god those cars are amazing.

I used to own an '84 Carrera. The sound. I so miss that air-cooled flat six scream.

Porsche's became even more popular when Tom Cruise drove one in Risky Business.

Hahah. I'd say it should be the other way around. Tom Cruise is just a lucky actor, there are craploads of guys like him who never became famous.
While Porsche stands as a pinnacle of German car making.

Few things stand for a long time, 911 is a good example. A design that simply must not be changed, because the basic form is as attractive as it was 40 years ago. Compare that to any other car maker. That alone is enough to make it legendary.

I almost spit my coffee all over my computer.

Not only is Cruise a twerp, the car wasn't even a "real" Porsche. Dr. Ferdinand Porsche would never, ever have signed off on the 928. (Or the Cayenne or the more recent 4-door abomination, whatever the heck it's called). Porsches are supposed to be about being small, light, and fast. The 928 was none of these.

Porsches became truly cool decades ago, when James Dean got a Spyder (the car he died in).

Wait, you don't know who James Dean was, do you? <*sigh*>

He was the epitome of cool. True American icon.

Look up Steve McQueen, too.

Tom Cruise had one thing to say that cannot be disputed, "Porsche, there is no substitute." I have two red beauties that I ride/drive regularly. I agree with previous posters about the exhaust note of the flat six. Mine has the help of an excellent B&B muffler behind Powerhaus headers (among numerous other performance and handling upgrades).

Porsche became popular way before the movies caught on. I would say the 917 (and the win at LeMans) is what made Porsche umber popular.

Porsche has had a few racing wins to help enthusiasts:

Makes and Team World Championship 14
Long Distance World Championship 8
IMSA Supercar-Series 3
German Racing Championship 6
European Hill Climbing Championship 20
Formula 1 Driver-World Championship (McLaren with the engine designed and built by Porsche for TAG) 3
Formula 1 victories (McLaren with the engine designed and built by Porsche for TAG) 25
Formula 1 victories (together with the victory in Rouen in 1962) 26
Daytona (24 Hour Race) 20
IMSA Supercar-Race (USA) 15
Le Mans (24 Hour Race) 16
Sebring (12 Hour Race) 18
Targa Florio 11
Rallye Monte Carlo 4
Paris-Dakar Rallye 2

I got my first in 1979 and have had many different Porsches until 2008 when I gave my son the one I had and he sold it for a BMW. I'm looking for a nice RUF now.

I had a Boxster till almost 4 years ago . Iam still here because it was a Porsche . I was going to town on a back road and here came a full size GMC pick up with a lift kit and big tires around a curve on my side of road . I slamed on the brakes and he hit me head on . His driver side front tire left marks on the top. Impact stopped him and he rolled back down crushing the front end rest of way. Driver compartment intact I even open and closed driver door . Air bag gave me a busted lip . I had a concusion from hitting the roll bars and my L/leg is a little shorter were I was bracing for impact with clutch pedal to floor and other foot on Brake. . I miss the car but don't miss the expense of owning one.

One day wife called me on cell phone she was on the Blue Grass parkway Park way . Wanted to know how fast a MB sedan would go. She said didn't know model just a MB. I asker he why . She said one wouldn't let her pass and she was doing 130 . I told her to stay in it . She called back a couple min later and said he quit near 140 . This same woman used to give me dickness, When she heard I had hit rev limiter in 6th gear a couple times on my Hayabusa. She told me guys in the mid 60's were not suppose to do those things.

If you watch that video He is going red line every gear then shifting. He really not babying it to much.
