Any good boots in the ~$100 range?

Looking to pick up a pair of riding boots for no more than $120 or so. I want something over the ankle obviously but not full height.

I was thinking something like these or any of these. Any brands or boots to avoid? I don't think I need waterproof. ventilated might be nice. Thanks for any input, except maybe spare the lecture on the importance of full length boots.

Maybe these

I have these. They're pretty good and they're waterproof. But they're not vented though.

I use these LINK and I like them. I'll probably buy some full boots here soon but these are comfy and I've had no problems with them.

I use the Shift Racing Fuel Street shoes and I find them to be comfortable for me to wear all day at work. They seem to be well made and durable thus far, they can get a little hot as there isn't any ventilation. All in all I am happy with them, and they appear to even be on sale now so the price is pretty nice!

I bought these. I like them. Not full length, but as you said you don't want them to be. No laces, which is a plus to me. Ventilation works as my feet have yet to get hot even in 100+* Texas days. They have another pair just like this, but longer in the ankle area. These go about 1-2" above the ankle bone.

I actually wear them to work too.

I have those too. I like them a lot...do what they're supposed to and look good with my torque jeans. They are a tad warm tho. I recommend them!

Are you sure you don't want to hear about the advantages of a full over calf boot?

Well if he doesn't, I actually would like to know the advantages they have for street riding...

The second and third pictures are pretty good reasons to me. Also, the Sidi ST is pretty comfortable to wear off the bike (I speak only of Sidi because it is the only pair I have owned) and they look awesome to boot.

My first riding boot was a "street shoe" type boot, the Vega Merge. I wanted something inexpensive that I could wear off the bike that didn't look too much out of the ordinary wearing in a store. It was a complete waste of money, and I don't use them anymore. After riding a bunch, going down once and better researching it, I moved to a full length boot. By trying to save some money, I cost myself some.

Some good options in a full length boot in your price range are the Cortech Latigo/Teknic Chicane/Sedici Laguna triplets (the same boots with different branding - go with whatever is on sale) or the BiLT Trackstars. I have the Cortech Latigo Airs that I got for $120 on sale just today. I got my Trackstars on sale for $69, and you can get them for $99 pretty easily on regular sales - they are in the price range for the boots you are looking at. Much better to ride in than the shoe style boot.

Had the opportunity to test out the Cortech/Teknic/Sedici boot at a riding school today before I bought them, beat the crap out of them, and they are super comfortable and seemed really durable. They get hard use there for sure. And I've been riding the BiLT Trackstars as my commuter boot for a few months now, and they've been great. Light weight, breathable, very functional, and much more protective than my now dust-gathering high tops.

But keep in mind that's your foot/ankle/shin/leg right there. be safe

like Mr. Floyd, I would say try looking into this http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/c...o-air-rr-boots for that price, you can't go wrong.

@gfloyd2002 where'd you get them for 120???

Ken really likes the Vega touring boot
http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Boo...torcycle-Boots
It is a touring boot comfy to walk around in and has zippers on both sides, a feature he really likes. Last pair lasted 1 1/2 years and he rides everyday, 400 miles a week.

Omg, that was brutal to scroll thru. That is why I swear to myself no matter what I'm ATGATT all the time. Is it true they use steel wool or something like that to scrub out road rash?

Ahh yes, sidi boots. I like the boots that I have now but I want to own a pair of sidis next. You mentioned the sidi st, are there any others that would be good for the street with good protection? I was reading reviews of the vertigo air boots and it seems those are comfy enough to wear around as well.

The riding school I went to today carried Cortech gear. Price was near cost for them, and potentially not kosher with Cortech retail pricing. Though I paid $299 for the school, so maybe not so much of a discount after all, lol.

Oh, and I should mention, if anyone wants a pair of Vega Merge size 10.5, I'm planning on putting them up in the donated gear thread.

Hm I guess I'm not completely opposed to a full length boot, it just has to be VERY convenient to put on and take off. I have a very short commute and change into work boots once I get to work. So zippers and fast straps like velcro (not the buckle type) would be best. I'd rather not need to lace. Suggestions then?

Ok I like the cortech latigo air. Maybe something like that but with a less aggressive preshape.

I was actually going to purchase the Vertigos when I was looking at boots but they were sold out in my size so I went with the STs. As far as walking comfort, the Vertigos seem to be reviewed as being more comfortable than the ST while still providing substantial protection.

It takes me at most 30 seconds to put both of my boots on/take them off.

Your boots cost $400. Do you have any recommendations for something similar in the $150 range?

My boot experiences are with Dainese, Sidi, Bates, and Fox. All are either too much $$$ or too many buckles. Dainese and Bates were easy on/off but >>$150. Sidi and Fox had too many buckles to be easy on/off.

Dainese Torque offers excellent coverage and is a really easy boot to get on/off but I guess at that price it really ought to be

Plus, I think the pictures above do a fair job of supporting the full length boot notion. I do hope you can find something in your price range, but I encourage you to keep an open mind about cost versus protection. Lucktoyou

Oh, definitely. I wasn't suggesting that you should get the boots I get. I was just saying, you shouldn't let a buckle closure system prevent you from purchasing a boot that appeals to you.

I think I'm gonna pick up a pair of the vertigos in the "air" version

The Cortech Latigo Air RR Boots that you guys posted, are they comfortable for wide feet? I wear a 2E shoe. I wear New Balance 993s for reference if anyone can help me out.

My least convienient pair of boots out of the now 5 pair (yikes) I own is, by far, my pair of Vega Merge hi tops. The Cortech/Sedici/Teknic triplets, and the BiLT Trackstars have a single side zipper covered by velcro and a very wide opening to insert foot. You open the zipper, insert foot, close zipper, done. On the hitops, I have to lace them, and access to the laces under the velcro cover flap isn't great, and opening the laces enough to actually get a foot in isn't easy.

Can't help you there, Paul. Perhaps head to your local Cycle Gear and try on a pair of the Sedici Lagunas, they are the same as the Cortechs (and the Teknic Chicanes).

Maybe more of a touring boot. They tend to be more comfortable off the bike and more upright. Among my ever-growing collection is the Tour Master Solution. Full length, very comfortable off the bike and on, upright with no forward preshape and $100 on sale at Motorcycle Superstore right now. Not as protective as the sport boots, but made for long ride comfort during touring. Because they are waterproof, there is a cover behind the zipper, making them a touch harder to put on than the Cortechs (but still easier than high tops). I don't wear them often because they don't flow air and too hot for humid Barbados summers. For the Bay Area, though, they'd probably be just what the doctor ordered.

Now that I've seen the images I want full length boots. What are the stiffest, more rigid shoes out there. The once you guys posted here look soft and well kind a pointless. How will those thin leather, peel like a banana when unzipped shoes protect my ankles. Do they do test with those shoes. I spent my entire life skiing in ski boots and still get ankle injuries. Are there shoes out there that are more like ski boots. Maybe not as stiff, but I walk very little but ride over 10,000 miles per year and would like to get something that might actually protect my ankles and not just keep them warm. Thanks.

Ouch, maybe i will ride with my ski boots. I spent some time at the local stores looking at full length boots but everything felt soft. Yes, they are stiffer than hiking boots but i can still flex them with my hands. When you tumble at 50mph, you have forces 50 times harder at work. This is why ski boots are made to absorb 1200lb of side force. These motorcycle shoes flex at 50lbs. I just don't think they will do much, except protecting your feet from road rush and maybe against some small bumps. The photos shown in the link show the entire ankle joint dislocated and riped out of the skin. I don't think a single shoe shown in this post will prevent that.

If size 13 Sedici Lagunas fit, is it safe to say the Cortechs or Teknics will fit as well size 13?

I really depends on what you're budget is. If you're trying to stick around the $100 range like the op, then the ones that have been suggested are pretty good for the price. If you don't mind getting into the $300+ range the Sidi's have a lot of options.

I haven't tried on the Teknics, but the Sedici and Cortech fit was identical at my size (45 EU). Each run a bit small, as I'm usually a 10.5, and the 11 is the right fit for me. The sizing could not have been more spot on between the two brands - very clear to me they are the identical boot.

Took the plunge and ordered the Latigos from RidersDiscount. Hopefully the 14s fit and I don't have to take a $10 hit returning them. The boot seems popular since every place is sold out of them.

No I got the Airs. I don't plan on riding in cold weather (in Georgia ) or in rain . It looks like RidersDiscount has both in stock at your size.
