Good deal on damaged bike
Hey guys i have been reading this forum for a while and just decided on joining. Im looking to get a ninja 250 and have been looking for a while and i think i found a pretty good deal but i just wanted to run it by you guys.
Heres the ad, selling it for $2750, 2008 ninja 250r with 625 miles Mechanically in great condition! I'll start with the bad news though... I dropped the bike at a low speed... maybe 15 mph. I ended up braking my collarbone and haven't ridden this season since. The fairings are damaged on the left side only however it is not cracked or broken. Just scratches. The turn signals on the left side will have to be replaced or repaired. They just fell off the bike and I don't know how to put it back on. That's it. The carbs are in great shape. The bike starts right up very quickly. |

I've seen that ad since im pretty much always browsing CL although i thought he was asking for 3000. A new turn signal is ~40 bucks new from a kawi dealer so if you don't care about the plastics than it seems like a decent deal. That is if everything else is in tact from the drop.
Where in jersey are you? Just curious as a fellow NJer, feel free to pm me. Edit: Here's the craiglist ad. 99% sure this is because of the collar bone story, although price is higher and no mention of mileage. http://newjersey.craigslist.org/mcy/2382064671.html |

$2750 is still too much for a 3 year old bike with significant damage. It's more like $2200 - $2300 bike unless he gets the fairings, the turn signals, and any other cosmetics cleaned up before sale.

The photos in the ad don't look all that clear. Its hard to tell exactly. The damage doesn't sound that bad. I strongly recommend that you take a guy with you that is familiar with newgens to look at it in person. In particular, I would examine the fork.
But if the only damage is what is listed, it doesn't sound that bad. Black is the easiest color to match so if repainting is necessary, you are home free. On my pregen, the turn signal just came out of its socket once and I just put it back. Maybe this is the same thing for your prospective bike. Good luck and don't be afraid to let it go if it turns out to be a bad deal. The blurry photos and the "broken collarbone at 15mph" are red flags for me. ======= PS- On craigslist, if anybody says they need to ship it to you and wont let you personally inspect it, its a scam. Run away as fast as you can. Last futzed with by n4mwd; May 15th, 2011 at 12:49 PM. Reason: forgot stuff |

Are you guys who are saying that this is a good deal on crack? A pristine 08 goes for 2.8K. This bike (even though I cant see the picture) is worth no more than 2K. Maybe a tard will show up and pay him his asking price (it is NJ after all) but I doubt it.
My 08 is clean and almost pristine and if I were to sell it today, I would ask 3K and let it go for 2.8K. Let this tard sit on his POS till he gets savy to what its really worth. |
