Time to start putting on serious cycling mileage

So I did it. I did the tri and it was a blast. It also made me realize how much I have to go to really get back into shape. So since I am planning on running and cycling for now on, not to mention doing the BP MS150 and another triathlon or two next year, I need better equipment.

I have two cycling computers. One unit is an old Polar model that does speed and HR. I then swapped to a CatEye model that tracks cadence and speed. Well I figured the more information I have and the more versatile the equipment is, the better off I am.

So I got an early Christmas present from my wife:

It is a Garmin 310XT.

I can wear it on the swimming leg of a triathlon too. It measures heart rate, cadence, speed, and also has the GPS. That is nice because it will track my elevation too. It will also give me a good idea of my calorie burn so I know what I need to be taking in before a ride/run/tri. I also plan on getting a foot pod to help track my cadence while running, but that will come later. The first upgrade I'll purchase next year is another speed sensor for my mountain bike. That way I use one computer for two bikes. It also transfers data via a wireless connection. So I just go in the menu and select data transfer, and my computer is instantly uploaded with my previous workout!

All this for under $500. Since it has GPS and is resistant to the water, I could technically take it on the motorcycle and check to see how off the speedo is on it too.

I'm excited. It is charging right now, hope to use it a lot this winter while I train. I love new toys!

I have been up for a few hours, even had a caffeinated drink, and my HR sitting on the couch was 58. HAHAHAHA

Awesome!

Did two rides (on Thursday and Friday, no big mileage), and uploaded the info online. Amazing how accurate it tracks! I'm shocked hahaha. So much nicer than having to enter the data manually.
