My Ninjette underwent...

A) Inspection by a mechanic
B) Insoection by the DMV
C) Lots of sitting on the trailer waiting for me getting paperwork
D) A LICENSE PLATE PUT ON!

I'm legal again!! ... Just in time for the winter storm to hit...

I looked at it and decided to buy it
it'll be my lil' yoshi next week
-'01 ninja 250 in lime green
runs well and only has slight cosmetic damage, purely because of the turn signal pushing into the fairings
featuring a yoshi sticker xD

Felt that my friction zone seemed to be getting smaller and smaller as time progresses and was getting more difficult to use so I bought a set of clutch springs and while lurking on eBay I found a complete set of clutch plates (both friction and metal) for $24 shipped off a bike with 4k miles on it. Bought an OEM gasket since I'll probably rip the old one off.

I had just replaced the clutch cable about 2k miles ago and have kept an eye on it, adjusting and lubing when needed and I can't seem to remember if the small friction zone is just in my head or that's how the 250 is. On the ZX6R...DAT FRICTION ZONE is huge.

So for ~$60 I can learn how to install new (well, used) clutch plates.

Just put a set of ebc springs on my pre-gen. Its a very simple operation. My factory springs had gotten so weak that I could move the lever on the clutch case by hand with the cable removed! Needless to say I also had no friction zone. My clutch looked brand spanking new thankfully. With springs and a new cable installed it feels amazing. Nice, springy, and decent friction zone. I think all 250's have short friction zones, but needless to say the springs made a huge difference on mine.

I decided to go with Barnett springs, I'll definitely consider EBC and even the OEM springs if I don't like the Barnett's since the cost for a set of springs is so cheap. I just hope that I won't destroy the clutch cover gasket every time since they run about $15-20 a pop.

Let's see, I switched out the stock brake light bulb for a nice LED replacement, added a flasher unit to the brake light while I was in there and then gave it a quick cleaning with some wonderful Smartwax One.

Indeed, my springs were $10 shipped and the gasket was $20 shipped. Crazy haha.

Necessity? No way. Its a fun thing to scare people with for jokes, but also nice so if someone cuts you off, they will definitely hear the horn! Mine seems to be louder and higher pitched than the one choneofakind posted, but similar idea. Mine is the single hella supertone, high tone. $35 on ebay.

Today the lady and myself went on our first official ride. We went down a bunch of backroads through the country to get to a restaurant that ended up being closed down. We then decided to check out 3 other restaurants that were also shut down. So I figured we'd just head back home and we ended up getting lost.
Good times, good times! My new helmet felt nice and the dropdown was awesome, much better than the piece of junk KBC I was using before.

Oh and once we got back on track, we happened to come across the nativity scene for the picture game. All in all it was a good ride. I plan on getting lost again sometime this week.

You need clutch plates and springs?

The listing where I bought my plates had been sitting on eBay since November 2011 so I think they're glad I bought them.

Just search "ninja 250 clutch plates" on eBay and pick out the listings that are for the newgen.

Here's one for the basket, plates, pressure plate and springs/bolts for $45 shipped off a 2011:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-Kawasak...d52277&vxp=mtr

2010 plates, springs, bolts, bearing for $49 shipped:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/K54-Kawasaki...56045f&vxp=mtr

Thanks. The problem is, none of the sellers seem to know how to list their !$@#!#. None of them say "clutch kit" despite the fact that EBC and others have yet to make a complete clutch kit and yet they do. Also, they randomly call it EX250, EX250J, EX 250R, Ninja 250, Ninja 250R, etc and there is no one good search term to get the right results. There's one seller that sells newgen windscreens and stuff who STILL lists his stuff as EX250F '08-'12.

Titles should be search terms/keywords. Everything else should be the description. Something like "2008-12 EX250J Ninja 250R Clutch Pack Kit Springs Friction Plates"

To make my search broad enough to get all the other results my inbox would get flooded as soon as I set up the notification and started waiting for one with a good price.

Yeah I had to go through about 50+ listings and narrow down the results based on what was pictured in the auction. EBC's "kit" is merely the friction plates and you have to source the metal plates and they sell their springs separately.

There's a seller on eBay that sells a full Barnett clutch kit (friction, metal, springs) for about ~$100 shipped but I prefer to stay with OEM discs. They list the correct Barnett part numbers for the kit:

Yeah, I saw that, but I don't trust it. Kawi's OEM clutch pack has three of one kind of friction plate and two of another (different part numbers) while the Barnett kit has five identical ones. I trust the EBC kit even less. I just wish someone would sell a complete kit with springs and gasket for significantly less than it costs to buy the parts from a dealer. It sounds like a lot to ask, but the pregen and many other bikes have kits like that available.

4 metal plates: 13089-0021
2 friction plates (innermost and outermost): 13088-0039
3 friction plates (in between): 13088-0038
4 springs: 92145-0531
Clutch cover gasket: 11009-1872

Sourcing them from cheapcycleparts.com is $143.23 before shipping. I've never dealt with cheapcycleparts so I don't know how their service is. I used Bike Bandit for my replacement clutch cable and I received my stuff the next day, but I also paid like $10 premium over the other OEM parts sites.

Lurk on eBay for a bit until you can find the parts you need from a parted-out bike.

I'm guessing that after I take off the clutch cover this weekend and take a look inside that my plates are probably fine and all I really needed were the springs but since I got such a good deal on plates with ~3.5k miles of wear then I might as well swap them out. The EBC springs are about 10% stiffer than OEM and I don't know how much stiffer the Barnett springs are, I might end up buying OEM springs if I feel that the clutch is too stiff.

Yeah, I know and actually had those part numbers in my clipboard when you posted that. What I'm saying is that the Barnett kit has a quantity of five 301-35-10012 "Friction Plates" instead of three 13088-0038 equivalents and two 13088-0039 equivalents. That sounds like they aren't aware that the outer plates are supposed to be different. I've never seen anyone who used theirs to know if it works or not.

Got it, I also don't know if EBC has the same issue with their friction plates.
