CA Emissions?
Trying to figure out if there are emissions laws in CA for motorcycles? I have a ton of mods in mind to do over time but i dont want to do some and screw myself when it comes time to renew my registration. I have no idea if you have to smog test bikes or anything like that??? If anyone knows what the laws are and what mods i can get away with i would appreciate the inputs.

Right now there are no California-specific laws on emissions testing. Bikes are not tested after they are sold. There are federal laws that say exhausts need to be epa certified, but those have been on the books for decades and are generally unenforced.
But - there was legislation passed this year that will change this for bikes built after Jan 1, 2013. From that point forward, exhausts on motorcycles must have an EPA stamp on them stating that they have passed the required testing. Since OEM pipes are pretty much the only ones that go through that testing, it will be harder to have an aftermarket pipe on a streetbike without risking tickets/fines/etc. There's still time for the law to be delayed or changed, but as of now that's how it stands. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/2/8064...haust-Law.aspx

Emissions aside, you can still be ticketed for loud exhaust though right?
