Brake Caliper and paint.
I'm planning on getting some paint for my uncolored accent pieces, like bolts/pegs/etc. I was also planning on doing my calipers, but I'm not sure if bike calipers need a special heat resistant paint like they recommend using on car calipers. Does anyone know if I would need special paint, or would I be able to use normal paint?

Can you get powder in OEM colors? And would you powder pegs and bolts also? I take it powdercoat because it's more durable than paint?

On brakes it is generally a good idea to go with powder coating, although if want you can sometimes get away with high temp spary for BBQs and such. Paint will work but if you take to the twisties or traffic the paint will bubble and flake off when they get hot.
most powder coating comes in general colors. if you have the money to charge the spray it works best but generally home done is just heat the part to 200ish then spray let dry and cook at 400 for 15mins let cool and your all set. powder coating is partial ceramic thus the "powder" part making it more durable for high temps. There are tons of video how to do it but a couple of practice pieces are a wise choice. As a side note try not to spray the threads if doing blots in matching colors |

Well! That's cool, powder coating guns are the same price as spray/airbrush guns.. maybe I'll just go that route after all. Since I'm fairly sure all those items I mentioned will fit in our oven
On a side note.. just in case I get overambitious.. If a wheel will fit in the oven, whats the best way to secure it so it'll cure correctly and not mess up the coat? |

The caliper paint for cars including the high temperature paints designed for painting engines would do just fine. Key is in the preparation and taking your time to do it right.
Powdercoating is obviously a more durable alternative but unless you have an oven specifically dedicated to curing these parts then you should look for a shop that could do this. It is unwise to use your oven you cook food in to cure powdercoat (the manufacturers warn against this as well). The best way to secure a wheel in the oven is by using a coat hanger to suspend the part from an upper rack through the axle hole.... |

I saw Rust-o-leum caliper paint sold at Harbor Freight. They only had black and red though.

Regular colors are $50 for four car calipers. $100 for color match. Best stuff on the market. They might make a smaller kit for your bike. Call or email and ask.
