Lifting the rear wheel??

Today on my way home I was a couple blocks from home. The police had placed a speed check sign on the side of the road and the truck I was behind posted 52km on it and the lights started flashing. (50km speed limit) I'm assuming this is why this happened, I think he got distracted. I was easily maintaining a 3-4 second distance between this guy. When suddenly he slammed on his brakes he had almost missed his turn. He locked up his tires I'm assuming since they squealed. Signaling only when he came to a complete stop. Now my girlfriend was following me home and she said as soon as this guy did this my reaction time was almost instant. She swears that my rear tire lifted off the ground as well. My heart was basically in my throat crazy ass drivers on Tuesday....

Anybody else have any experience with this? Is it even possible for a bone stock ninjette to have that kind of stopping power?

Of course, if you gradually apply front brake while going fast enough you can.

I mean gradually instead of jerking it quickly and having it lock up. You did it right, and came to a stop safely. Were you using any rear brake?

Yup I had my foot ready for the brake because he had been driving a bit awkwardly. I would consider it my first emergency stop. Musnt have done to much if my rear was in the air though.

Realistically you're going to use your front brake for about 90% of your stopping power

Which turned into 100% I'm glad I didn't wreck into the back of the truck. I probably would have been at fault

Usually they always deem fault to the rear ender. Kinda sucks, even if they just brake for no reason, you're supposed to maintain safe speed and all that. But you didn't and you got some good emergency braking practice in it

the front brake on this bike will loop the bike without an insane amount of effort. like most sport bikes. but you know what happens faster than using your brakes? not using your brakes.

well i hope i don't have to do that again. As i would rather not be lifting my rear wheel off the ground.

Also my boots are still in the mail... could have been a bad day for my feet and ankles

You're very lucky!! Congrats on surviving an unintentional stoppie! Now that you know how it feels, work on panic braking (in a safe place) to get a feel for getting almost to that point without forcing the back wheel off the ground! I'm pretty sure the 5-0 don't approve of endos, intentional or not...

Also maybe work on gauging car speeds and using that 3-4 second space if needed. Even if he slammed on his brakes, shouldn't be too hard to just react appropriately and stop safely without the wheel lifting. Just speaking from my experience though. Definitely good on you for surviving that. Don't think I've ever had the back wheel lift.

if one locks up their tires on a big truck and im 3 seconds behind following thats a very small gap especially when it was unexpected. Stupid cagers and their failure to follow simple rules of the road like signalling, or coming to a controlled stop.

I do understand where you are coming from on this. I try to watch the other drivers for signals and such but none were given.

It's called an "Endo" or "Stoppie." Lots of videos of these on 250R bikes.
