How far is your commute to work?
Now no guessing, just go to maps.google.com, and type in the route you take. Whatever distance you get, type that into this thread.
The thought came up with exactly how far it is to work because I was thinking about cycling to work vs driving. Now I know I can take the 250, but I'd really like to get into great shape, and I know commuting on a bike is a great way to do it. I can go for a long time at about 15mph if the 100* sun isn't burning down on me. My distance is 25.4 miles. It takes me about 35-45 minutes to get from point A to B (driving). If I was on my bicycle, that would take me close to 2 hours to get to work, one way. The end result was an enthusiastic H3LL NO when it comes to riding my bike to work. If I were only <15 miles, then I'd be all over it. My wife and I got into a discussion about what would happen if gas prices hit like $8+ a gallon. I mentioned riding a bicycle, but then I thought that the distance would be too great. I'd love to do it, but that far, with the weather as hot and humid as it is, I'm sure I'd smell great when I got to work. I'd need time to shower too. Taking a bike would definitely be a last resort, unless I got a job that was closer.

I have a 3 mile round trip to work.
That's why the only two wheels i take to work are pedal powered. |

my trip is 82.1km each way, so 164.2km round trip...not able to go with pedal power here, i don't even want to think about doing it in the winter with 12" of fresh snow on the roads. my 250 does the job well when weather is dry and above freezing.

1.9 miles one way for me. I used to take a bicycle when gas was around $4.
I may start up again when the weather gets cooler cause even though my commute is so short, on hot days I would get into work drenched in sweat. |

3 miles on the nose.
I'd ride the bicycle, but sweating in wool dress pants is less appealing than root canal, and only slightly more appealing than showering at the office. (aka - I'm horribly lazy). |

Right now I'm doing 16 miles one way. When I start school in September that will increase to 39.22 miles each way. But when that happens I'll only be working part time and commuting three times a week.

74 miles round trip. All freeway including the Bay Bridge and Caldecott Tunnel (if I go that way -- it's a little further if I go around the tunnel the other direction). So needless to say, no bicycle. But I have done it on my 250 and on the Spyder. Normally I just carpool to Oakland and ride the train into San Francisco. Easier than having to deal with trying to park in SF.

About 20 KM (12 miles) each way.
Of course, if it's a nice day for riding I often take a longer route home...

16.9 miles - about 22 minutes one way according to Google. I also have to go through tolls so it kinda slows ya down. But then again I (and 95% of the traffic) don't exactly do the speed limit lol.

11km each way on pleasant residential roads. And as long as I don't get stuck behind a truck or an overly-timid cage, there are some half-decent twisties too.

Well, I usually take one of 3 routes...
10 miles on the freeway, when I'm in a hurry. 10.8 miles if I take the back road, which I usually do except it's under construction. 31 miles when I get off work in time. This is an alt route while my "normal" long route is under construction. 30.7 miles, my usual long route currently under construction. These vary all the time as I explore new routes and side roads. There's tons of good places to ride between Redmond and Bothell... |

44km one way..the long way (my preferred route) or 41km the short and dangerous way..i.e. on the heavily reconstructed Gateway Arterial Bridge tollway. Not a good place for bikes; too many trucks in hurry and too many car drivers paying no attention while they look at the new bridge under construction
All things being equal and I don't get caught in one of Brisbanes' notorious grid-locks about 40mins.
