Indian is recalling it’s large-displacement models from 2014-2017 to correct a problem that could cause a fuel leak. The recall affects the Chief Classic, Chief Dark Horse, Vintage, Chieftain, Chieftain Dark Horse, Springfield and Roadmaster. The Scout and Scout Sixty are not included in the recall.

According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the fuel rail on the affected units may come in contact with other components during manufacture or routine service. This may cause the fuel rail to chaff, potentially resulting in a fuel leak.



Polaris opened a full scale root cause analysis of the fuel rails after receiving multiple warranty reports. Examination of field claims and an evaluation of the components in the system led Polaris to initiate recall proceedings. There have been no reports of injuries or vehicle damage as a result of this problem.

Indian dealers will install a bracket to secure the fuel rail on affected units, preventing them from contacting adjacent components. Dealers will also inspect fuel rails for signs of damage and, if necessary, replace them.

The recall affects 23,746 units in the U.S.
