Same here. I've been around machining all my life, but never saw this piece of the puzzle before, thanks!
Note that they're called "steel balls" not "ball bearings".

Ball bearings have made it possible for machines to smoothly run for a long time. The invention of the ball bearing is second in importance to the wheel.
