1986 EX250 Fork Tube replacement?
Found out that the fork tubes on my '86 EX250-E are bent (Only slightly, but enough to mess with my suspension if they aren't alligned -JUST- right).
I don't really know much about forks, so I'm wondering what I can get as replacement fork tubes, just the shiny chrome looking part. I looked around a bit and OEM parts would cost an arm and a leg, so I'm looking at whatever aftermarket variant will work on my bike. |

A good used set is the cheapest way to go.
Look on ebay, and find a set that don't have vertical streaks above the dust seals. Low mile bike, and if they are bent they wear and put streaks on. I got a pair last week for $110 shipped, complete forks. Slide them in the clamp and go... It is a lot more expensive to buy new fork tubes, which I did on my last bike... She had a pit that would eat fork seals, so I bit the bullet. I don't think you can do new fork tubes, seals, and bushings for less than $350. Then you'll also want an air impact to get the bottom bolt broken free. Zach |

A machine shop may be able to bend:roll it straight but eBay may be you best bet.

if it isn't twisted or kinked, a press and vblocks and a skilled hand can get it straight pretty easily

They seem to both be bent, and both just slightly. No crease or anything, but enough that if they aren't aligned just right, then my suspension vanishes and/or my bike tries to drift to one side. Finding a used set for my bike that's the right length and diameter seems difficult, as most that are the correct diameter are quite a bit too long for my bike. =/

Is the steerer the same length as the later model pre-gens?
If it is, it might still be cheaper to swap triple tree's and forks off of some of the more common sized ones than find the parts to rebuild. Zach |

That is an idea that I hadn't really thought of. Not really sure if it's the same length or not, though. I'll look into that and see if I can make that a viable option. Thanks for the idea!
