Retrofitting an 04 with a 13 engine.

EDIT: meant 2013 engine not 2012

Hello everyone!

My girlfriend has recently been bitten by the riding bug and no longer want to be a passenger. She's taking the MSF this weekend, so we're looking at arguably the best started bike (ninja 250). The one I'm currently looking at on CL is a 2004 model with a 2013 engine retrofitted to it.

Is this possible? Were there any changed to the frame or electrical systems?

I did try searching this subject but all I could find were posts asking about the Ninja 500 engine swap.

Are there any other common issues I should be on the lookout for with this generation ninja?

Here is the quote from the ad "2004 ninja 250 with a new motor from the 2013 edition automatic valve timing no adjusting valve clearance etc."

Cheers,
Steven

i know at least the front engine mounts/radiator mounts are different- you need the set that matches the engine but both sets fit both frames. not sure on other stuff

Thanks for the reply Alex, that's something I'll touch on when I talk to the seller.

I'm pretty sure the Ninja 300 still requires valve clearance adjustments. Also, the seller would be stupid to focus on the year difference and not the size difference unless this were a 250 engine *manufactured* in 2013.

The seller has not a clue about the engine. Yes the cam chain adjuster is automatic as long as it work properly. The engine is shim under bucket valve adjustment. The valve adjustment is NOT automatic.

If the seller doesn't know the engine is it a good idea to start someone out on this bike? Who's to say the swap was performed and has been maintained in a professional manner?

Bikes are out there for great pricing that would be stock and therefore easier for her to learn to maintain herself, which to me is half the fun. I could only recommend you continue looking.

If you have to buy this one it is worth very little, IMO.

We passed on the bike just for that reason. He didn't really know anything about it. There are bunch popping up in surrounding areas that haven't been molested.

Thank you for all your replies!

It is all about cost of production.
Technically, all is possible.

Who's going to pay for it? This is the real question, indeed.
