Clutch basket removal

Hi All,

I have decided to replace the clunky clutch on my 1990 GPX250 with a complete clutch and pushrod from a 2011 model that I got from eBay. I have four questions which You May be able to help me with;

1. Does the nut holding the clutch centre loosen anticlockwise or clockwise.
2. What’s the cheapest way to hold the basket while removing the nut?
3. What is the tightening torque PSI for this clutch basket centre nut?
4. Any tricks or tips?

I will be grateful for all advice. Would rather not just barge in and break something.

Regards and thanks
Garry

So that will be a new gen 250 clutch. Well I did that a couple of years back worked a treat.

I suggest you download the manual from this site first.

Nut undoes left loosy.

To hold the basket you can either use or make a basket holder or use the old copper penny trick where you place it between the primary gear & basket gear. Please ensure its a true copper one, not a plated steel one. A magnet is your friend.

For torque see the manual.

Trick is the lift won't work, you meed to add a spacer washer to compensate for the different basket thickness. This was with an old gen lifter, new gen one may work fine. Dig up my old thread.

Have fun.

Thanks Mohawk. Your advice and comment is much appreciated. Complete 2011 clutch mechanism with 9000km on it including all washers, the oil pump gear and the actuating arm will arrive tomorrow so am looking forward to installing it in the near future. Parts for these bikes are very cheap in Australia for some reason. All up cost including postage was $65AU which is probably around $40USD.

Regards
Garry

If you have a friend with an impact wrench that works too.
