Bypassing ABS?

I want to bypass the ABS unit on my 2014 track bike. I have a new Galfer braided line.

The reason for doing so is that I can't bleed the front brake to firm enough. It always remains spongy. One of the coaches at TPM told me that it has to be done by the dealer. Apparently they connect a sensor or computer to the bike to engage the ABS for bleeding. Nope. I want to do it and I want a stiff lever for those rare occasions on track where I actually use the brakes.

My question is will the bike run/operate as before if I disconnect the ABS unit and go with direct lines?

Thanks

Have your serviced the calipers? Flush and fill new fluid? How are bleeding the brake system?

I use and recommend picking up a hand vacuum pump, like this one, makes bleeding brakes easy and quick, takes me about 2 minutes at the most.

HFS (R) 2 in 1 Brake Bleeder & Vacuum Pump Test Tuner Tool Kit New https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NP60URE..._3mvGxbY9ZCYSX

Comes in handy for a lot of things requiring vacuum, like testing petcock, bleeding brakes, sensors, etc.....

That looks like a nice system but it's a pretty simple process for the Ninja.

Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze and hold. Open, close nipple. Repeat. It's the ABS unit that's the issue.

The coach at TPM is wrong. It doesn't require a special tool, bleed as normal. That said, have you checked yours for the recalls to see if it is under recall for a brake issue? The sensor can interfere with the front brake, leading to uneven wear, and the issue you describe.

Check your VIN number here: https://www.kawasaki.com/OwnerSupport/SafetyRecall

One other thing, have you tried tying the brake lever back to the bar with a zip tie over night?

Clearly you've never used one, it's even easier, open bleeder, pump, pump pump, and done, obviously top off the fluid and your done, no more need for endless pumping, or worried about trapped air, etc...

I don't know why it wouldn't work to just bypass them. The ABS unit is just a passive one so it shouldn't interfere with engine management features that I know of. I's hoping your issues are tied to the recall. If it is under recall, even bypassing it won't help.

I wish my Mityvac was that simple... takes me longer to get a good seal on any bleeder valve than it takes me to just bleed the brakes the old-fashioned way...

The ABS has to go. I had very little brake left after 4 or 5 laps of Shenny.

Anyone have a spare stock rear brake line?

Mike

I would recommend unplugging the ABS unit and going for a ride to see what it does to the ECU.

On it's big brother the ZX6, it pretty much turns on every idiot light there is on the dash simply by removing the lines....

I can't find anything on removing the unit. This would be a way to test and see what would happen before you went through all the work to bypass it.

This place has some helpful hints as well: http://www.kawasa***************/for...s-removal.html

It's an exercise of patience that most do not have to force air out of a brake system.

An exercise of patience would be holding the brake lever all night without using the ziptie

sorry to bring this back, but did any one find a solution for the wear issue also i was wondering if just running a single line to the caliper in front and rear will do the job?

I'm not sure what you're referring to but I put a braided line on the front and a stock non-abs hose in the rear. I did remove the entire ABS system and hard lines with no ill effect on either the brakes or electronics. The brake lever is solid now.

Sorry that I never replied to this. Yes, this is my routine. Both track bikes whenever parked. I have velcro straps for this. Keeps the valve open and lets any air percolate up and out of the line.
