Clear tubing compatible with brake fluid

Does anybody know what type of clear tubing is compatible with brake fluid?

DOT 3 and 4?

Silicone tubing, Tygon tubing are ok.

You mean for bleeding the brakes/changing out brake fluid, right? I just used clear vinyl tubing. No issues.

If your needing tubing for bleeding, I don't think it matters much. If the fluid is going to damage whatever you use, it's not going to do it before you finish. I used whatever the local hardware store has, vinyl I think.

for bleeding, the regular vinyl you find at the hardware store will be fine. Run some WD40 through it afterward and you'll be able to use for a very long time.

To replace the rear brake reservoir where the fluid will stay in the tube for the life of the tube, you have to use Tygon as it won't be destroyed by the fluid.

Looks like Tygon is what I need since I am contemplating replacing the rear reservoir. Now the question is where can I get it.

but since you only need 4" might want to call around your local automotive repair stores or moto dealers/shops. I found some at an industrial supply store and my local Kawi dealer.

US Plastic is super helpful for stuff like that. I used them for my bixenon retrofit needs, as well as Tygon tubing for all my carb fuel and vacuum lines. Works great. It's even this funny yellowish-green color.

Keep them in mind if you ever need bulk plastic for things. They're not cheap because you have to buy in bulk, but they're pretty competitive on pricing when you look at their unit price and you're going to use most of what you bought.

You can cut it down to about 4". That's what mine is, just gotta be careful when you bleed it as a single pump of the master cylinder will drain the entire 4".

Hey do you think you could send some of that my way. I've been wanting to replace the rear brake master on the Aprilia cause the stock setup is ridiculous.

Not all Tygon tubing is created equal. I talked to tech support and they recommended Tygon 2375.
I have two feet 3/8" ID x 5/8" OD and I used 3 inches on my Ninja for the track. PM me if you want this size. How about $7 for 4 inches mailed?

You might want to have a vent hole in the plug.

The stock reservoirs have a diaphragm under the cap, so that as the fluid level drops during use, it can follow it down. Having a fixed volume sealed in there could have a minor effect on how the brake works, due to the vacuum resisting the flow of the brake fluid (similar to tank vent issues causing fuel flow problems). Maybe there's enough flex in the hose that it can collapse a little? *shrug*

Obviously it doesn't seem to be a major problem for everyone already using this setup, but it would be ideal if you could get some sort of diaphragm/vent in there.

I would be afraid that the vibrations could aerate (sp?) The fluid and cause issues.

definitely do not put a vent on that. Fluid might leak out and will slowly eat the paint off of everything it comes in contact with...

never had a problem with mine. If the brakes are properly bled, it won't cause any issues to cap off.

I used a brass sprinkler fitting from the hard ware store to cap mine off.

Other issue with vent: water, which will make your brake soft and lower the boiling temp. Not REALLY and issue with the rear brake, but still not something I'd prefer not to set myself up for. Plus you'd be leaving a system open that's intended to be closed. Unless you have a desiccant breather on there then... well... it's really just your rear brake, kudos for over-achieving but come on.
