Kawasaki revealed a new Z300, a naked version of the Ninja 300 sportbike. Based on the Z250 previously released in Asian markets but upgraded to the larger 296cc parallel-Twin engine, the Z300 will be offered in European countries.

Curiously, the Z300 is just one of the new small-displacement models presented at EICMA, along with the single-cylinder Ninja 250SL and Z250SL models. Along with the Ninja 300, Kawasaki now has four similar entry-level models for Europe. There’s no word yet on North American availability for any of the new models, though we hope Kawasaki will at least bring the Z300 over to compete against the likes of the Honda CB300F.

The Z300 borrows styling cues from Kawasaki’s larger Z models, most notably the Z800 (a European model not offered in the U.S.), particularly with its multi-reflector headlight. The zig-zagging bodywork covers the sides of the cylinders but leaves the header pipes revealed.

The engine is the same as the one powering the Ninja 300, claiming 38.9 hp at 11000 rpm and 19.9 lb-ft. at 10000 rpm. Power is delivered through a six-speed transmission and, like the Ninja 300, a slipper clutch.



The frame is the same as used on the Ninja 300, promising balanced rigidity. The 30.8″ seat height is identical to the Ninja 300 but the flat, wide handlebar leads to a more upright riding position. The suspension and brakes are also the same as on the faired Ninja.

Other features include an analog tachnomoter, LCD display, a 4.5-gallon fuel tank and a curb weight of 370 pounds (375 with ABS).
