I've seen tons of people taking their dogs on rides. Mostly chiwawahs, min pins and other smaller breads.

But once when I was driving through Kaibab National Forest on my way to the Grand Canyon, I saw a guy with a Labrador in a side-car. The owner had even strapped some goggles over the dogs eyes. I though it was hilarious.

There's a guy in town around me, that has made a trailer for his dog out of an wooden barrel. First time I saw it I thought the dog was fake, he was sitting to still.

I've wanted to take my sister's Pomchi with me. I've even seen the harnesses and helmets with eye protection for sale.

That, in my opinion, could easily be called torture. You think wind noise is hard on YOUR ears?

Not all of us have loud exhausts. How is the wind noise any worse than a dog that likes to hang his head out the window or ride in the back of a pickup truck? Dogs do BOTH, willingly, all the time and they love it. Also, they do sell earmuffs intended for helicopter rides and such and the doggie helmets provide some hearing protection. Earplugs work too if your dog is well behaved enough to let you insert them.

Does that dog have earmuffs? No. Is that dog on a ninjette? No. Have you ever ridden a CBR? Even the stock mufflers are MUCH louder than a ninjettes, and it's an undertail exhaust so the noise is also closer. And, if you could honestly tell me that the dog does THIS willingly, that argument would work. Oh, and I also think putting dogs in the back of a truck, or allowing them to stick their heads out the window of a moving car is also wrong. One stray grain of sand or a grasshopper could easily destroy the dogs eyes. All of this, again, is just my opinion.

I wish the best for her and the dog, but some people have a naiveness about the world that really puts themselves at risk, and it hurts me to see it imposed on other beings.

Still might have earplugs! I think that some dogs put their heads out because they can only dream of going that fast on foot and it makes them feel like they are that fast themselves.

She's going to be seriously traumatised if she ever have to go down..can you imagine having some freshly cut doggy steak attached on your back?

I would never do that to a dog. I may take a dog for a ride if I had a side car. Other than that, no way.

No thanks. To me that is putting the dog in danger that it doesn't need to be in. Wind noise, even for me on the 250, is horrible. Anything above 25mph is torture (mainly exhaust noise at that speed). I can do it, but does it mean I want to? I value my ability to hear, so I always ride with earplugs in.

On the freeway, the wind noise is deafening.

Looks like we have a few people that would not take their dog on their bike and I agree. Along the same lines here's a question for you. Is it safe to carry your animals in the car with you and if so how do you keep them from being harmed in the event of a crash.

That dog is just adorable. I'd be too afraid what would happen in the event the rider went down.

Sure it's "cute" but still made me a little sad. What if something ricocheted and hit the dog. No bueno.

When I have to take my dogs to the vet, I keep them inside the car. I crack one window so they can still smell all the smells they like without sticking their heads outside. We're also inside city limits the whole time, so we're never going over 35 mph. If we had to take the highway, the window would stay shut to minimize wind noise. As to keeping them safe, there are certain things you just can't prepare for. My dogs will get out of any seatbelt configuration I put them in. On long trips, they'd be put in their crates. On short, in town trips, they're on the seat next to me, attached to their leashes, and their leashes are in my hand. The only one not in the seat is the Akita, because he's too big to fit. He sits on the floorboard next to my legs. That's really the best I can do.

When in my Jeep... I have them in a safety harness that clips into the seat belt.... works great and keeps them compfy and controlled. I'd be greatly concerned about taking them on a bike just in case something caused an unavoidable incident.
